PLUS INSTRUMENTS
Until last year Truus was just a short footnote in the Dutch music
history. However in 2012 some events took place around the Dutch “Ultra”
music movement. Eindhoven native, Truus (ex Nasmak), was an important
component of this genre. She performed a series of concerts in 2012,
which was evident that Plus Instruments did not only survive the sands of
time, but in fact appealed to an entire younger more current public.

BLACK BOMBAIM
Coming from the unexpected musically prolific small city of Barcelos,
 Black
Bombaim are three guys that grew up together exchanging records, amidst
bucolic landscapes of portuguese countryside and excessive drug
experiences, playing outer-space jams, from planets yet to be discovered.

Taking Sleep's Dopesmoker as a reference, today's Black Bombaim are more
than just heavy drugs. A little like medical marijuana, the trio formed by
Tojo Rodrigues, Paulo Senra and Ricardo Miranda knows the origins of the
word "psychedelia", after sharing the stage with the likes of Kyuss Lives,
White Hills, Radio Moscow, Electric Wizard, Endless Boogie, Russian
Circles
and Gnod (including a totally improvised live collaboration released on
Cardinal Fuzz label) .
If "Saturdays and Space Travels" (Lovers & Lollypops, 2010) already
foreseen great journeys, "Titans" - recorded in Meifumado Studios and
mastered at Golden Mastering (Melvins, Sonic Youth, Om) in California - is
the confirmation of a band that lives from the strenght and
determinationof surgical improvisation, the ambience of a doped up bass,
the power of
reckless drumming and wailing fuzz-wah drenched guitars and keys.

DICTAPHONE
Designed by Oliver Doerell and Roger Döring, Dictaphone is the meeting of
two minds who think jazz but practice electronica. having previously
written theatre and film scores, Doerell and Doring here construct, as
their label calls it, 'processed electronic slow-motion jazz'. The
strangely titled 'M.=Addiction' has a restless spirit; showcasing
typically crisp cco production-line beats alongside a more adventurous
avant-garde edge that is increasingly found on this imprint.

N.I.
Three guitarists, one drummer, and nothing to fret about: NI are out there
to save the universe, their exorbitant rock drone doing the hula hoop with
templates, their outre-space free jazz swarming with noise-shaped JS Bach
on natural steroids.Everything’s there, and everything’s there is shit
hot.
Boasting members of such risky ventures as Tumido, Fang den Berg and
Braaz, NI released their debut album in 2010 on Zach Records. As a direct
consequence the quartet toured half the Continent, leaving it in a state
of unadulterated exultation.May and June 2012 see NI on yet another
outing, regaling Central, Northern and Eastern Europe with their next
offering: the follow-up, “Foxtrott”, is released on Interstellar Records
as a very pink vinyl LP in a very green sleeve. The LP’s designsmartly
reflects the style and colour update of their stage kit: gone is the
surreal astro-chic of yesteryear, their screamingly dazzling costumes now
ushering in a neo(n) era of all senses transmogrified. And still the music
is free from inhibitions yet complex;still it is as delightfully delicate
as a damsel in distress, yet as brawny as a Bavarian barmaid.A second
helping of brains washed down with Zweigelt, insanity on the highest of all
possible levels.

Thank you for reading.

I hope to hear from you asap.

Regards.

Alain

THE COSMIC DEAD

THE COSMIC DEAD are a jam rock collective from Glasgow/Scotland, playing a mixture of psych, drone, space and kosmische kraut elements. Members are drummer Julian Dicken and guitarist James T Mckay plus alternating bass and synth collaborators. They formed in early 2010 and one year later the debut album came out on cassette tape via German label Who Can You Trust?

Records.

DANIEL KORDIK/EDWARD LUCAS

London based free improv duo of Daniel Kordik (synthesizers) and Edward Lucas (trombone). Daniel Kordik is a musician and performer, born in Slovakia and currently based in London. Weaving a thread around electronic and improvised music, Kordik works mainly as an improviser, music collaborator, field recordist and a regular member of the duo Jamka and Urbsounds Collective. « The juicy sounds of the Vostok Synth wiggle with squelchy non-classical balls of trombone fluff.

ORE

We play slow music using two tubas and amplification, informed (but not

limited) by our enthusiasm for drones, doom metal, improvisation and minimalism. We are heavy, but our heaviness comes from the way our bass, contrabass, and subcontrabass sounds hang in the air and relate to their surroundings – natural echoes, natural silences.’

“…authentically unusual sounds from the deep, resonant depths of their instruments, almost pulsing at times as they generated a marvellous, foghorn-deep drone, punctuated by snatched breaths, like hissing gas or the wind’s whistle. The primordial noises were somehow more impressive for being organic in nature and all the more so when you consider that this was the duo’s first public performance.” – The Line Of Best Fit “Dissonant tones rub together like giant battleships scraping along one another as the duo of Ore alternate between passages of static drone and slow groans of “riff”.” – ATTN:Magazine “The music David Lynch would use if he was doing a Hovis advert.” – Mark Fell

RYOKO AKAMA

Ryoko Akama is a composer/sound artist, currently undertaking the second year of her PhD at the University of Huddersfield. She initiated her interest in electronics during a sound engineering course at SAE college in the late 90s. She enjoys DIY in order to realise compositions, sound installations and performance. An apprenticeship to Mrs. Yatotaka Kineie on Nagauta (a form of traditional Japanese music using the Shamisen, voice and percussion) since 2005 has influenced her artistic insight, from where she explores and researches Japanese ideology and the art forms of Noh, Teaism, Kabuki etc. The composition series `Tone of Orient`, presented at the FON festival, deals with the aesthetics of subtlety and delicate soundscapes of traditional instruments alongside electronics and objects.

I hope to hear from you soon.

BOOKING OFFERS/ RICHARD SAWSON, ROBET MILLIS, TYSMFYH, MARK KOZELEK

Posted in Uncategorized on février 21, 2014 by debloque

Hello, I’m booking some dates for MARK KOZELEK, TYMSFYH, ROBERT MILLIS and RICHARD DAWSON MARK KOZELEK (USA) https://soundcloud.com/ribio-rip Availability: 14th and 15th April Territory: Europe ROBERT MILLIS http://robertmillis.net/ Availability; 22nd + 23rd May Territory: Belgium RICHARD DAWSON (UK) http://www.richarddawson.net/ Availability: Between 5th and 8th May + 10th and 11th Territory: Belgium TYSMFYH (Belgium) https://soundcloud.com/bruise-on-silence/tysmfyh-fall-together https://vimeo.com/83538391 Availability; Between 29th May and 6th June Territories: Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France MARK KOZELEK Mark Kozelek (born January 24, 1967) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer. He is best known as the vocalist and primary songwriter of both Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters. TYSMFYH a musical project. Asides their visual work together, they also kept develloping a joint musical project, that they named TYSMFYH. The project TYSMFYH assembeles not only the large musical background of both artists, crossing genres from metal over field recordings to spoken word and noise, but also their love for cinematographic atmospheres. These influences are incorporated by both musicians who create in this project their own morose universe, with lots of tension wich leaves little space for the audience to breathe. RICHARD DAWSON Richard Dawson was, until he appeared at TUSK and Supersonic festivals in 2012, the North East of England’s hidden jewel – a skewed troubadour who sings and plays guitar with a rare intensity and singular style. His voice has been compared to everyone from Tim Buckley to Richard Youngs while his guitar playing recalls Sir Richard Bishop and Zoot Horn Rollo and, combined with the inescapable snare of his lyrics, means surrender to his music is inevitable. He also happens to be hilariously surreal between songs too and we’ve never had such passionate feedback about performances by any artist we’ve worked with as we have with Richard. This year he’s gone from local legend to touring Europe twice, performing at festivals such as Latitude, Supernormal, Incubate and SOY and being lauded by Late Junction, The Wire, The Quietus and many more. It’s too easy to describe any artist as peerless but this time it really is the case. Following the genius of this year’s The Glass Trunk cd, Richard has a new album out in Spring 2014. He’s genuinely one of the most affecting performers you’ll ever see. Stewart Lee in The Sunday Times described The Glass Trunk as « a mesmerising, pungent collection » that « draws out hidden truths in strong bold strokes ». Alex Neilson said in The Wire: “ »This remarkable album packs all these emotions and more into its 19 highly idiosyncratic and imaginative pieces…it’s mingling of the incidental with the testimonial hopes and anxieties of all-but-forgotten people is profoundly affecting. » ROBERT MILLIS Our man Millis is a Climax Golden Twin and a noted curator of globe trotting / time traveling esoterica, amongst other accolades. In the former category, Millis and Jeffery Taylor steadily release some of the most headscratching amalgamations of avant-rock, decontextualized temple music, heightened-state minimalism, and collaged field recordings this side of the Sun City Girls (including the soundtrack to the cult film Session Nine); and in the latter, Millis has published a number of acclaimed anthologies for Sublime Frequencies (Scattered Melodies, This World is Unreal Like a Snake in a Rope, Phi Ta Khon, The Crying Princess, etc.) and Dust-To-Digital (our personal favorite, aptly titled Victrola Favorites). With his fingers in so many jars of jam, it can seem like an uncommon occurrence for Millis to release solo work although he is one to smear his sticky hands all over himself in performance, installation, and collaboration. Thus, The Helen Scarsdale Agency is delighted in presenting his latest opus, Relief. I hope to hear from you asap. Enjoy your week end. All the best. Alain

THURSTON MOORE/ANDY MOOR/ANNE-JAMES CHATON Anne James Chaton based in Paris, is sound poet and performer. He has directed several reviews and has had six books of his poetry published by Al Dante. He has performed with the Dutch experimental rock group The Ex, and released Cds with guitarist Andy Moor (« Le Journaliste ») who regularily perform live all over europe, Alva Noto (« Unitxt ») and his own solo releases, including recently « Evenements 09 ». In 2010, he presented a new performance, called « Black Monodie », with the French performer Philippe Menard and continues to work with both Alva Noto and Andy Moor on a project called « Decade ».

Andy Moor based in Amsterdam , born in London , began his musical life in Scotland is a full time member of Dutch Band The Ex and was a founding member of Scottish band Dog Faced Hermans and Berlin based Kletka Red ….he has other duo projects with Yannis Kyriakides, Christine – Abdelnour -Sehnaoui, DJ/Rupture, Colin McLean, Kaffe Matthews and with quartet Lean Left (Terrie Ex, Paal Nillssen Love and Ken Vandermark) and trio Thermal (Thomas Lehn and John Butcher) and Trio Decade ( Anne James Chaton . Alva Noto). Andy also works creating soundtracks for several film and dance companies.

Thurston Moore needs little introduction – an inventive and instantly recognisable guitarist both in his solo work and as a member of Sonic Youth

KIM DOO SOO

Kim Doo Soo is the deepest and most introspective of Korea’s acid folk singers. Many are the legends that cling to his songs — political oppression, alcoholism, suicide, a ten-year period of mountain seclusion.

Despite having been active since the mid-’80s and having released four acclaimed albums in Korea, most Western listeners only became aware of him through his tracks on the recent Damon & Naomi compilation, International Sad Hits. On 10 Days Butterfly, his fifth album, he mines productive veins of profound melancholy, animistic nature, and unfathomable, hermetic affection. The whole is couched in a veil of the most gorgeous, still melodicism, Kim’s vocals and guitar shaded with subtle accordion, violin, piano, organ and harmonica. A reflective and unearthly beautiful masterpiece

TOMOKO SAUVAGE

Sauvage, a Paris-based Japanese musician, uses water-filled porcelain bowls for her electro-acoustic performances and compositions. The use of hydrophones (underwater microphones) allows her to capture the subtle sound of water waves and drops resonating in porcelain bowls. The serene, contemplative aquatic soundscape is woven from these fragile materials.

Her first solo album, Ombrophilia will be released on and/OAR (USA) in 2009. Collaborators include Gilles Aubry, Momus and Emmanuel Rebus.

I hope to hear from you asap.

Regards.

BOOKING OFFERS: PEOPLE OF THE NORTH, ALVA.NOTO, DOT WIGGIN BAND

Posted in Uncategorized on février 14, 2014 by debloque
Dear all,

These are my last offers before the week end:
ALVA.NOTO, PEOPLE OF THE NORTH, DOT WIGGIN BAND

ALVA.NOTO (Germany)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_m2Zua2ynU
Availability: On request
Territory: Benelux

PEOPLE OF THE NORTH (USA)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZxrQoemLLw
Availability: 21st + 22nd March
Territory: Benelux + France

DOT WIGGIN BAND (USA)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL75TmeUrT8
Availability: Festivals in the Summer + club/venue shows in late Oct/early
November
Territory: Europe

ALVA.NOTO
Carsten Nicolai is a sound artist. He uses the stage names Alva Noto, Noto
and Aleph-1. He is a member of the music groups Diamond Version with Olaf
Bender (Byetone), Signal with Frank Bretschneider and Olaf Bender, Cyclo
with Ryoji Ikeda, and Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto with Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Nicolai was born in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany (then Karl-Marx-Stadt,
Saxony, East Germany) in 1965. He studied architecture and landscape
design before pursuing art. In 1999 he founded Raster-Noton.

PEOPLE OF THE NORTH
People of the North is Kid Millions (drums) and Bobby Matador (keyboard,
synth, vocals) of Oneida, and Sub Contra is their Thrill Jockey debut.
While their sound, like Oneida’s, is constantly shifting and absorbing new
concepts and ideas, Sub Contra is a work that fully embraces tumult and
darkness in startling and dramatic ways. People of the North have been an
active entity since 2003, but it wasn’t until 2010 with the release of
Deep Tissue on their own Brah imprint and Steep Formations, which followed
in 2012, that recordings became an important part of the duo’s identity.
Sub Contra also features contributions from Shahin Motia and Barry London
of Oneida.

DOT WIGGIN BAND
When I came across the Shaggs in the early 80's I found their music both
annoying and endearing. Over the years the combination of out of tune
guitars and bizarre rhythms became a periodic guilty pleasure I endulged
in. But to hear that Dot Wiggin, after almost 40 years, has made another
album inspired me to rush out and get a copy. I didn't know what to expect
but I was most pleasantly surprised. It won't be everyone's idea of great
music but the authenticity and sweetness of Dot Wiggin and her songs is a
delight. One of those rock and roll stories that defintely needs to be
told. After almost a 40 year absence, and in her mid-sixties, Dot and the
wonderful musicians with her have created an album that even non-Shaggs
aficianados can enjoy! Hope there is more coming!

Thanks for reading.

Enjoy your week end.

I hope to hear from you asap.

All the best.

La semaine du son à la VUB

Posted in Uncategorized on février 14, 2014 by debloque

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< ENGLISH De week van de klank This year La Semaine du Son takes place from February 24th to March 2nd, 2014. A week of events about tune, sound with sound artists, researchers and hearing specialists. Lectures, concerts, film screenings, broadcasts… they all take place in a dozen locations around Brussels. The approach is transversal: an open, informative and didactic reflection on creation (sound creations and compositions, radio, cinema, video installations…), distribution and broadcast (quality, diffusion resources, forms and carriers…), about the environment (architecture, the acoustics of spaces and sound disturbance…), about health (sound altitude, hearing health, subjectivity of sound…). The aim is to raise awareness around the topic, give people a better understanding of sound and noise, and encourage all actors in our society to look at sound-environment in a more critical manner. Vernissage Monday februari 24 at 18u00 with live performances by Keith Rowe and Jacques Foschia. Keith Rowe is an English free improvisation tabletop guitarist and painter. Keith is widely regarded as an influential figure within the genre of free improvisation and developed various prepared guitar techniques: placing the guitar flat on a table and manipulating the strings, body and pickups in unorthodox ways to produce sounds described as dark, brooding, compelling, expansive and alien. He also experiments with sound manipulation through electronics and radio. The installation Rowe will present in the KK Gallery’includes a reference to readymades and consists of 50 radios and 50 dogs that he will provide with live experts of sound manipulations during our opening night. Jacques Foschia is also an improviser (for instance a member of the London Improvisers Orchestra) who’s also actively involved with experimenting with radio in art. Armed with a mixing console and other electronics Foschia searches different frequencies on two ancient radios. Physical interventions such as tilting the device or moving the hands above the recipient contribute to the production of a unique soundscape. After his live performance, the result can be visited as an installation in our KK Gallery’. Meer/more info: lasemaineduson.be kultuurkaffee.be
