LIONEL MARCHETTI/XAVIER GARCIA

Marchetti discovered electroacoustic music with composer Xavier Garcia at Groupe de musiques vivantes de Lyon (GMVL). From 1989 to 2002, he taught the recording of sound and music composition during workshops hosted by « Université de Lyon 2 ».

Since then, Marchetti has composed at Groupe De Recherches Musicales (GRM) from 1990, at GMVL, La Muse En Circuit, Coream (Grenoble), Collectif & Cie (Annecy), and Studio Césaré (Reims).

His collaboration with long-time partner Olivier Capparos lead him to Höspiel for France Culture « Atelier de création radiophonique ».

Lionel Marchetti extensively performed as an improviser using microphones, loudspeakers and electronics, especially with fellow composer Jérôme Noetinger, who also published his first book.

Composer and improviser, he’s interested into both things as creating music in studio and playing live on stage. He has composed nearly 30 electronic pieces in INA GRM (Paris), GMVL (Lyon), or « at home ». Since 1987, he’s a member of the « ARFI » (Association looking for an imaginary

folklore) : he plays sampler and electronic devices in ARFI ‘s groups as « L’Effet Vapeur », » 32 Janvier », »Duo Recio-Garcia », « La Marmite Infernale », « La Grande Illusion », « Potemkine », » Villerd/Ayler quartet », « Lighthouse », « Bobines Mélodies », « Old, Blind & deaf « , « Virtuel Remix » …

He plays also in solo and leads some different projects as « Virtuel Meeting », « Radiorama », « Reel Meeting ».

He worked with stage directors as Denis Guénoun, Jean Yves Picq, Dominique Lardenois, Elisabeth Macocco, Jean Paul Delore…, art designers (Philippe Mouillon), movie directors , vidéo artists, 3D movie directors (Claude-Pierre Chavanon, Françoise Petiot, Lorenzo Recio, Fabrice Fouquet), choreographers (Stéphanie Aubin, Ulises Alvarez, Julyen Hamilton), joglers (Jérôme Thomas), and some other musicians and composers (Eric Brochard, Chris Cutler, Brian Eno, Heiner Goebbels, Gianni Gebbia, Alexandre Meyer, ONJ Franck Tortiller, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, Hasse Poulsen, Carlo Rizzo, Yves Robert, Guillaume Roy, Norbert Stein …)

BASIC HOUSE

Opal Taper, Stephen Bishop’s intrepid Basic House project is steadily becoming one of the most fascinating off-road electronic projects around.

‘Oats’, for Luke Younger’s highly esteemed Alter imprint, places him in good company alongside textural and rhythmic explorers such as Jamal Moss, Helm and Damien Dubrovnik. It’s his 2nd album of 2013 after the crumbling deconstructions of ‘Caim In Bird Form’ for Digitalis, and finds his sound at once congealing and diffusing with a unique sonic syntax. Textural decay demarcates its six tracks, flowing from the buckled tape loops and guttural bass thump of ‘AR II’ to the soiled grunge techno of ‘Child Confession’ by way of a trans-temporal fag break of porno lite keys and a gasping vocal fragment before heading back into the concrète workshop ambience of ‘Interiors’ to close the first side. On the second, ‘Est Oan’

features a chamber group of swirling shapes and acephalic voices, before the grotty expanse of ‘B.G. Feathers’ crackins with distortion before the sinkhole of ‘Dry Contact’ slowly swallows its contents in a gurgling muck soup. Like any good and properly *new* music, Basic House is breaking down convention and rebuilding new forms with each subsequent release…

QUATTROPHAGE

Their sound is characterized by a total spectrum of sounds. Screeching noises to a crash, the bubbling wave to murmur. Offering you a soundtrack and played by three members:

Matthew Safatly* cello and hacks of all kinds (he is one of the pillars of the Belgian collective *One Moment Free Improv* and played with Present, a progressiv band issued of famous Univers-Zero).

ANAIS TUERLINCKX

Anais Tuerlinckx is a pianist born 1986 in Brussels.

As she was 13 she began to experience free improvised music, weekly improvising with many musicians from all backgrounds.

At 18 she entered the conservatory to study composition. She left really soon as she had no affinity with classical teaching. She only kept visiting the improvisation class of Garett List.

2008 she moved to Berlin where she could listen to the best quality of improvised music and noise. Noise music, punk and sound performances inspired her to search for harsher and more intensive vibes.

Thanks for raeding.

I hope to hear from you soon.

All the best.

JOHN CHANTLER

he music is still extremely present tense, and much like the din and lights of a capital city, it exists in the form of movement and micro-reaction; a lattice of sonic contrails that sometimes slips accidentally into the shapes of words and emotions I recognise, and sometimes take a more alienating route through the labyrinth of randomisation and chance” Jack Chuter.

BOOKING OFFERS: CAVE/SPINDRIFT

Posted in Uncategorized on juin 17, 2014 by debloque

Dear all, I am booking some dates for CAVE, SPINDRIFT, and KLAUS LEGAL. CAVE (USA) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaar268H5zI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLrofQRFQ6k Availability: 22nd September Territory: Belgium SPINDRIFT (USA) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIdLTpBLM4I Availability: 22nd, 23rd, 24th September Territories: The Netherlands + Belgium CAVE Cave return following their ‘Neverendless’ album. ‘Threace’ is a real ‘back to the lab’ kind of album for Cave. They have spent more time on these new sounds than they had before – which is saying a lot! All Cave music grabs at your ears and the soft tissue within, and yet this time it’s just so much more crystalline, bottom-booting and all-consuming than ever before. Threace comes on guitar up and jelly tight, saving the keys for colour commentary among the beats. Jeremy and Cooper explore their six-string relationship, finding shared space, ducking, parrying, working the edges, and finally twinning to awesome effect. Meanwhile, there’s a fleeting blast of sax and flute textures in there that create new soul-jazz sensations. Last and most, Dan and Rex bring the heavy with the thickness while moving the rhythm with exceptionally light feet, playing colouristically while always driving, driving, ever driving, bearing the load and raising the arch under which everything happens in Cave. Cave are known and loved for playing with rolling funk minimalism; ‘Threace’ finds them inhabiting their cutup aesthetic with tremendous ease and fewer reference points than before, accessing new depths of meditative stasis, and then torpedoing the dream on a dime to ride the riffs again… » SPINDRIFT Mixing the dusty, cinematic soundscapes of old spaghetti-western films with the mind-expanding Psych Rock of modern practitioners like The Dandy Warhols and Brian Jonestown Massacre (not to mention drone forefathers The Velvet Underground), L.A.’s Spindrift makes music that sounds like what one would hear while tripping in the desert on a vision quest. Originally formed by singer/songwriter/guitarist Kirpatrick Thomas as two bands — an East Coast Rock one and a West Coast version more in line with Thomas’ Ennio Morricone jones — the frontman bled all of the influences into one and dropped anchor in California, forming a seven-piece band to re-create the spooky Old West sounds in his head. The unique hybrid caught the ears of Sex Pistols’ guitarist Steve Jones early, leading him to champion the band on his popular L.A. radio show. Since then, Spindrift has worked songs into movie soundtracks — most notably the indie The Legend of God’s Gun, in which the band’s music plays a starring role — and are currently enjoying success with The West, the band’s first album for the Dandy Warhols’ Beat the World label. Relentless US touring has given them the opportunity to support Dead Meadow, The Black Angels, and The Dandy Warhols, as well as several headlining tours, and an appearance at The Monolith Festival at Red Rocks. Both haunting and hallucinogenic, « The Legend of God’s Gun » soundtrack takes the listener on a cosmic journey through the desert as a preacher-turned-gunslinger sets out for vengeance. With a guitar in one hand and six-shooter in the other, neo-cosmic cowboy Kirpatrick Thomas and his current band of banditos resurrect the spirits of Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai and combines them with the ghosts of Velvet Underground and Jim Morrison, weaving a dusty backdrop to a story of sin and salvation in the wild wild west. Thanks for reading. I hope to hear from you asap. All the best. KYOKA

Kyoka works as a musician/composer in Berlin and Tokyo and is known for her chaotic and direct musical approach and a heavy-rough sound, resulting in a broken pop-beat with experimental yet danceable rhythms.

She grew up in Japan, having piano, flute and syamisen lessons during her childhood. While listening and recording radio shows to tape, she became attracted by the possibilities of scratching tapes back and forth and soon she begun to use the tape recorder as her toy, cutting, editing and producing first rough sounds.

In 1999 she started to explore the potential of synthesizers/computers and during her stay in Los Angeles from 2004 to 2008, she enjoyed some first success when her songs charted at local radio stations.

In 2008 she released her first album and we are happy that she joined raster-noton collective in 2012.

EMPTYSET

Emptyset boze some proper mechanical muscle on their debut full length for European electronica powerhouse, Raster Noton. ‘Recur’ is a clinical exploration of the colossal/crushed aesthetic they’ve explored to increasingly noisy degrees over the last few years, systematically pushing every element to its limits of ductility with canny use of « compression and rarefaction and the forcing of signal thresholds to their critical point. » Operating at the stress point between experimental sonic architecture and corporeal club music, ‘Recur’ recycles similar ideas until they buckle in ever pleasing, dynamic and powerful forms over its nine tracks. With ‘Origin’ the album’s central sound seems to oxidise from thick, heavy air, attracting and diffusing shuddering clouds of iron filings which take on ever more fascinating, complex geometries, from the convulsive glitches and slamming door kicks of ‘Disperse’ to the sustained menace of ‘Order’ to the retching, hyperventilating wave shapes of ‘Recur’. The effect is pleasurably visceral and strangely hypnotic, especially when played loud.

ERIC HOLM

Developed entirely from a single contact mic recording from a remote telegraph pole that carries high voltage lines that connect the island’s array of military listening stations, Holm crafts a detailed expansion of this solitary sonic moment, shaping the sound into an immersive meditation on man, nature and isolation. The telegraph pole connected to a seemingly endless network of traversing lines harnesses the dense ambiance of the landscape, both absorbing and distilling the essence of Andøya’s harsh beatific character, and considers the position of microphone as witness within a vast cycle of physical transition and terrestrial flux.

Thanks for reading.

I hope to hear from you asap.

MONDKOPF

Mondkopf (Paul Régimbeau) returns with his fourth album ‘Hades’, a Paris based producer who’s just getting better with every release.

‘Hades’ is an electronic album through and through, Mondkopf may be mostly known for his techno but various styles are skilfully stitched together to form an engaging album. Tracks are beautifully produced, its a thoroughly modern album full of inventive sounds and textures whether ambient, industrial or full-on techno. Régimbeau shows a lightness of touch as well as a darker palette of sounds, combined with a high level of precision and control which adds to the overall taut atmosphere. Highlights include the creepy ‘Absences’, and the majestic ‘Hades II & III’ . Fans of Mondkopf’s neck-snapping techno won’t be disappointed with the sublime ‘Cause and cure’, an album high-point which shows why he’s one of the best dance producers in the world today.

VOCUHILA TRIO

Vocuhila Trio is an alto sax / double bass / drums trio member of the Capsul Collectif based in Tours, France.

They play a contemporary free jazz based on the use of repetitive melodic motifs over a dense and incisive flow.

…a free and constant counterpoint that extends the heritage of the Ornette Coleman Trio in an unexpected way and proceeds with rapid, singularly penetrating bursts.

> Frank Bergerot, JazzmanJazzmagazine, september 2013

MOHAMMAD

MOHAMMAD is a chamber music trio consisting of Coti K (contrabass), ILIOS

(oscillators) and Nikos Veliotis (cello). Based in Greece, Mohammad make long form work drone works that explore the lower end of the frequency spectrum whilst retaining an intense emotional capacity. The results are monumental slow moving physical blocks of sound, both daunting and musical. The sheer weight of these recordings is impressive, the interplay of the musicians and instruments staggering, this end result being an album rich with immense harmonious abstraction which highlights years of dedication to their unique path.

Following on from their previous releases (the highly regarded ‘Roto Vildblomma’ CD and the ‘Spiriti’ 3LP box, both on Antifrost) ‘Som Sakrifis’ follows the trio through three tracks of deep space experimentation where the acoustic and electronic blend together as a monumental whole. Listening to ‘Som Sakrifis’ takes the listener on an expansive journey through the netherworld of the low range whilst retaining distinct traces of musicality. The time and space in these works have a logic more akin to that of Hungarian filmmaker Bela Tarr than any contemporary music references. Monumental monochromatic movement is the order of the day. Sit back, strap in and let these fine explorers take you way out into the nether world.

The LP is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, pressed on 140g vinyl.

It is packaged in a pro-press color jacket which itself is housed in a silkscreened pvc sleeve with with photos by Babis Makridis & Traianos Pakioufakis and artwork by Kathryn Politis & Bill Kouligas.
