Territory: Europe JAMES CHANCE & THE CONTORSIONS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=de5qHC85ygg Availability: 6th November Territory: Belgium THOMAS ANKERSMIT Musician Thomas Ankersmit was born in 1979 in Leiden, Netherlands and divides his time between Amsterdam and Berlin. In addition to his activities as an interpreter, he has also made a name for himself with a series of installations. His main instruments are analogue synthesizers, computers and the alto saxophone. He frequently works together with New York-based minimalist Phill Niblock and electroacoustic artists Valerio Tricoli and Kevin Drumm. His music projects and live performances take on a lively character and are marked by surprising turns and structural and conceptual stringency. Critics are particularly impressed by the balance between chaos and control in Ankersmit’s music. A series of CD recordings document Ankersmit’s always astonishing works. JAMES CHANCE AND THE CONTORSIONS James Chance, also known as James White (born April 20, 1953 as James Siegfried in Milwaukee, Wisconsin),[1] is an American saxophonist, keyboard player, songwriter and singer. A key figure in No Wave, Chance has been playing a combination of improvisational jazz-like music and punk in the New York music scene since the late 1970s, in such bands as Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, James Chance and the Contortions, James White and the Blacks (as he appeared in the film Downtown 81), The Flaming Demonics, James Chance & the Sardonic Symphonics, James Chance and Terminal City, and James Chance and Les Contortions.[1] Chance differed from some of his no wave compatriots by possessing (and demanding from his band) a certain level of musical skill and talent. His music can be described as combining the freeform playing of Ornette Coleman with the solid funk rhythm of James Brown, though filtered through a punk rock lens. Thanks for reading. I hope to hrear from you asap. All the best. Alain Some Noise C/O Alain Bolle PO BOX 43 1050 Brussels 5 Belgium info@somenoise.be https://debloque.wordpress.com
