Edmund Davie’s oMMM project ventures deep into the murky realms of cassette experimentation, with his latest release on the Alien Jams label, called Parallel Lines Converge. Cassette collage and drum machine rhythms are channeled through a trusty four track, sounds that seem to belong to some distant cosmological order. Noise synths and casiotone are drenched in tape hiss, rising to intoxicating proportions, adding yet another hazy veil to oMMM’s work. With as much attention paid to eerily buzzing soundscapes as overloaded drum sequences, oMMM navigates a vast expanse of sonic no-man’s land, all the while teetering on the brink of madness.

ANAL + is born out of the founding speech from Antonin Artaud: « Where it smells like shit, it smells like human being! » as a metaphor for the timeless revolt of mankind. Based on this, on the “body without organs”, quoting French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, all experiments become possible and Anal + does not hesitate to explore the endless meanderings of experimentation!

And indeed, this album entitled « Artaud + » appears as very diverse traveling cheerfully from EBM to No Wave through dub and psyche!

All this sprinkled with historical references to Marcel Duchamp, Alfred Jarry, Kurt Schwitters and JFK, referring in particular to a current criticism of the new potential dictators – no need to name them!

After playing in Brussels (Recyclart, Central Café, Nights of Beauty Tas, Mariners, Collectif du Quai, Chaff, ..), Charleroi (Rockerill), Liège, Berlin and recently in Paris (Belgian New Year), ANAL + is back in good shape!

Composed by Jean-Jacques Duerinckx (baritone sax, electronics) and Pierre-Jean Vranken (guitars, samples), this atypical duo will actually perform on October 22 at 7:30 p.m. at MAGASIN 4 (Avenue du Port in Brussels next Tours and Taxis ) to present his first album with a promising future.

There are the sounds that I gather, those that I make up, there is all that I settle before with protocols and that I deploy.

And above all, there is what comes here, to my ears, sometimes by accident, when the material is worked on in the studio, by the tape itslef, by the microphone. In the beginning.

I am not interested in any sound more than any other, I simply go where I think I feel something and I deepen. The form that it takes (broadcasting, performance, record) depends essentialy on the music itself. When it makes sense, the context or the space of the broadcast can determine the facts. The complexity of qualities, their assembling, is the core of my music ; seized between a semblance of realism and the desire for the greatest vagueness. I search for a tension.

Thank you for reading.

All the best.
