BOOKING OFFERS: JOHNNY DOWD, TOMA GOUBAND

Posted in Uncategorized on novembre 26, 2014 by debloque

Dear all,

JOHNNY DOWD and TOMA GOUBAND are available for some dates.

JOHNNY DOWD (USA)

Availability: 17th and or 26th April
Territory: Brussels + Wallonia (South of Belgium)

TOMA GOUBAND (France)

Availability: Second half of June 2015
Territory: Europe

JOHNNY DOWD
Singer/songwriter Johnny Dowd was almost 50 when Wrong Side of Memphis, his debut solo record of wracked country-folk-rock tunes, drew comparisons to Nick Cave in the alternative press. To a degree, that parallel was justified, as Wrong Side of Memphis devoted itself to murder songs and tales of doomed sinners. Dowd had grown up in Texas, Memphis, and Oklahoma before operating a trucking business in upstate New York, and his songs veered close to the source of American creepiness. Yet gallows humor and Dowd’s crackly voice tended to undercut any traces of self-importance, while his debut album — dominated by his singing and guitar, yet featuring spooky dabs of organ and synthesizer that placed him outside of the rootsy Americana camp — immediately established Dowd as an important cult figure whose weirdness seemed to be wrought from true experience. On his second album, 1999’s Pictures from Life’s Other Side, Dowd edged slightly away from the cliff, using a full band of musicians and a female backup singer to craft a punchier and less folk-rooted sound. His singing and lyrics, however, remained nearly as disquieting as they were the first time around. Temporary Shelter, issued in early 2001, and The Pawnbroker’s Wife, from the following year, were more accessible, produced records. Cemetery Shoes followed in 2004, while A Drunkard’s Masterpiece (comprised of three opuses that flaunt Dowd’s patented mix of dark, mutant alt-country) arrived four years later. The following year, in 2010, Dowd released Wake Up The Snakes.

TOMA GOUBAND
Toma Gouband is a percussionist whose materials include lithophones – rocks, stones, pieces of flint that are struck together to produce sound. Like Le Quan Ninh, he works from a horizontal bass drum used as resonator and table for a host of small instruments. Courants des Vents is a single improvisation, 45 minutes in length. It begins in isolated sounds, struck rocks resonating in the room. Gradually rhythmic figures appear, repeat, and mutate. Bass drum sounds occur, their echoes another measure of the space, and the work becomes increasingly complex, a dance of distances, pitches and durations. What may have initially seemed a simple set of materials assumes new dimension, perhaps in relation to the degree to which such resources might have been underestimated. Gouband emerges as cryptogeologist, an explorer of the mysteries and consciousness of the material world, opening himself and his listeners to a universe of reverberant matter that whispers secrets of acoustics. Listening closely to Gouband’s work, one shares in a fresh relationship (imaginative and imaginary) to the natural world. The stones are alright.

Thanks for reading.

I hope to hear from you as soon as possible.

All the best.

BOOKING OFFERS; ARNOLD DREYBLATT, CAGE SUBURBIA, ?ALOS, CM VON HAUSSWOLFF

Posted in Uncategorized on novembre 24, 2014 by debloque

Dear all,

I’m booking some dates for CM VON HAUSSWOLFF, ?ALOS, ARNOLD DREYBLATT, CAGE SUBURBIA.

CM VON HAUSSWOLFF (Sweden)

Availability: 17th and 19th January
Territory: Europe

?ALOS (Italy)

Availability: 9th and 10th April 2015
Territories: Belgium, The Netherlands

CAGE SUBURBIA (Italy)

Availability: from early March 2015 onwards
Territory: Europe

ARNOLD DREYBLATT (USA)

Availability: End of June 2015
Territory: Europe

CM VON HAUSSWOLFF
was born in 1956 in Linköping, Sweden. He lives and works in Stockholm.
Since the end of the 1970s, Hausswolff has worked as a composer using the tape recorder as his main instrument and as a conceptual visual artist working with performance art, light- and sound installations and photography.
His audio compositions from 1979 to 1992, constructed almost exclusively from basic material taken from earlier audiovisual installations and performance works, consists essentially of complex macromal drones with a surface of aesthetic elegance and beauty. In later works, Hausswolff has retained the aesthetic elegance and the drone and added a purely isolationistic sonic condition to composing. Between 1996 and 2008 Hausswolff has boiled away even more ornamental meat from the bones: his works are pure, intuitive studies of electricity, frequency functions and tonal autism within the framework of a conceptual stringent cryption. Lately he has also developed a more conceptual form of audio art overlooking subjects such as architecture and urbanism, rats and maggots. Collaborators include Graham Lewis, Jean-Louis Huhta, Pan sonic, Russell Haswell, Zbigniew Karkowski, Erik Pauser, The Hafler Trio and John Duncan. His music and sound art can be found on labels such as Touch, Ash International, Laton, Oral, RasterNoton, Firework Edition, SubRosa and Die Stadt. His music is published by Touch Music, London.

?ALOS
?Alos is a musician and an experimental performer, from 2003 she melts these disciplines to create shows/performances in which live music is a basic element.
Her work surpasses the boundary between performing arts, integrating experimental music, performance, improvisation and video art and makes the audience participate actively in the show through the stimulation of the six senses.
The feminine figure is the basis of each performative action and its role both in history and in the contemporary society is critically investigated.

CAGE SUBURBIA
Cage Suburbia’s bludgeoning sound is a reflection of the violent and tumultuous state of their native Italy; charred four-on-the-floor beats that crack and thud like a sonic imprint of damage left in the wake of social upheaval. Argument #2, their second EP in a planned trilogy, has an exploratory feel. The entire release is constructed from two dueling improv tracks that trade off like stepping stones en route to oblivion. It’s the latest addition to Haunter Records’ remarkably consistent oeuvre of gain-blasted techno for lovers of hard psych and noise. Below you can stream « Marseille », which unfolds with a certain swagger despite the apocalyptic circumstances.

ARNOLD DREYBLATT
Arnold Dreyblatt (b. New York City, 1953) is an American composer and visual artist. He studied music with Pauline Oliveros, La Monte Young, Alvin Lucier (at Wesleyan University) and media art with Steina and Woody Vasulka. In 1982 Dreyblatt obtained his Master’s degree in composition from Wesleyan University.[1]
He has been based in Berlin, Germany since 1984. In 2007, he was elected to the German Academy of Art (Akademie der Künste, Berlin).[2]
In his installations, performances and media works, Dreyblatt creates complex textual and spatial metaphors for memory which function as a media discourse on recollection and the archive. His installations, public artworks and performances have been exhibited and staged extensively in Europe. « Dreyblatt’s project, maintains its edge–and its importance for the rethinking of identity, history, culture, and memory–by refusing to retreat from or transcend […] public, archival traces. » – Jeffrey Wallen, Hampshire College.

Thanks for reading.

I hope to hear from you asap.

BOOKING OFFERS: RAFAEL ANTON IRISARRI/LAWRENCE ENGLISH/JOHN CHANTLER

Dear all,

………………………………………………………………………………………

RAFAEL ANTON IRISARRI
The follow-up to the much acclaimed “The North Bend,” « The Unintentional
Sea » continues Irisarri’s development of landscape inspired musical
renderings. Like the Salton Sea of today his latest edition is a gently
churning portrait of fluidity. It’s a record that sounds like staring at
a vast ocean in light breeze. Layer upon layer of currents swirl below
the surface, while gentle surges and waves coalesce creating fleeting
patterns and moments of intermeshed sonics. As these elements meet and
break away again, a sense of motion – both micro and macro – is created,
a rendering of the ocean calm before the inevitable storm. Coated in a
thick blanket of bass tonality, flickers of light catch on the crests of
these waves, uneasy jewels of sonic light that appear as quickly as they
disappear.

LAWRENCE ENGLISH
His new album « Wilderness of Mirrors » is English’s most tectonic
auditory offering to date, an unrelenting passage of colliding waves of
harmony and dynamic live instrumentation.
The phrase, wilderness of mirrors, draws its root from T.S Eliot’s
elegant poem Gerontion. During the cold war, the phrase became
associated with campaigns of miscommunication carried out by opposing
state intelligence agencies. Within the context of the record, the
phrase acted as a metaphor for a process of iteration that sat at the
compositional core of the LP. Buried in each final piece, like an
unheard whisper, is a singularity that was slowly reflected back upon
itself in a flood of compositional feedback. Erasure through auditory
burial.
« Wilderness Of Mirrors » also reflects English’s interests in extreme
dynamics and densities, something evidenced in his live performances of
the past half decade. The album’s overriding aesthetic of harmonic
distortion reveals his ongoing explorations into the potentials of dense
sonics.

JOHN CHANTLER
He has released his third solo LP for Lawrence English’s ROOM40 label in
2014. « Even Clean Hands Damage the Work », recorded for the most part at
the hallowed EMS studios in Stockholm follows « The Luminous Ground » –
released in 2011 and included in The WIRE magazine’s top releases of
that year. That was his first LP release focusing on the modular
synthesizer system he first explored as part of the trio LP with
Lawrence English and Tujiko Noriko – 2009′s « U ». Live, he patches a
versatile system capable of self-generated, shifting patterns of sliding
arpeggios and visceral noise, pointillist interjections and infinitely
variable texture.
Initiated in 2011 with a private edition LP, Chantler’s « Automatic
Music » series resumed in 2014 with a second volume on cassette via The
Tapeworm and volume three coming as a 40 minute digital download of
« Automatic Music for Henry Flynt ».

SLEEP BEGGAR
Sleep Beggar are the forerunners of experimental UK beats and noise.
Although in it’s infancy,
Sleep Beggar has made waves in the UK Underground movement with it’s
distinctive mix of
hardcore/eletronics and experimental hip-hop. Coming out of the empty,
desolate port town of
Holyhead in North Wales, Sleep Beggar is about to embark on their first
USA tour (April 2015)
with american rap artist JEdoubleF (American Scream Records). Their
latest releases ‘Fertile
Ground’ and ‘Paean/Monody’ have been well received by BBC Radio 1 Wales
and European
underground music press as being the forerunners of a new wave of UK
hardcore/electronics
crossover. Notable for their stripped down videos and stark visual
imagery and known for their
exciting performances, their latest release ‘Me Leaving Me’ has seen
Sleep Beggar solidify their
distinctive and exciting sound in experimental hip-hop hardcore music.
Sleep Beggar have recently
finished UK and European tour dates with acts as diverse as Death of
Youth (GER), Child Care
(UK) and Comadome (USA). They have captivated audiences through
appearances on the
ArcTanGent festival. With sights firmly set on a full length release, it
is worthwhile not to sleep on
this exciting new band.

……………………………………………………………………………………..

BRUSSEL
Brussel experiments with dusk-like soundscapes, where the sounds of
guitars and amps breath across dissected organ and asthmatic trumpet. In
the arid wilderness of their dark-noise-blues, we may hear the ghostly
echoes of Trevor Henderson, Ennio Moriccone or Harry Crews. The modular
improvisational group formed by the duo Hugo Roussel and Bruno F
regularly performs as a trio in collaboration with artists such as
dancer Marie Cambois (Brumassel) or poet Steve Gander

Thank you for reading.

Booking offers: MONTE ISOLA; BELCHKITCHEN, E.M.I.R.S.

Dear all,

I am booking some dates for: MONTE ISOLA; BELCHKITCHEN, E.M.I.R.S.

MONTEISOLA (France/Belgium)

Availability: On request

BELCHKITCHEN / E.M.I.R.S. (The Netherlands) https://soundcloud.com/belchkitchen

Availability: on request
Territory: Europe

MONTE ISOLA
Myriam Pruvot is a self-taught musician and sound artist. She’s graduated a master degree in fine art in France and then she was teaching multiple (sound and paper) from 2008 to 2011. More recently, she work as a sound composer and performer for contemporary dance (Belgium, Chili), participated in several workshops around spoken and sung voice. Also played in a solo musical project called, Monte Isola.
For a sole semantic reason, the Monte Isola project of Myriam Pruvot is named after an italian island. But then, from one continent to another, this sound creation owes it’s denomination to a sojourn on a chilian island, named Niebla. From the very first track of this disc, Myriam Pruvot plunges us into a harbour atmosphere, but far from restraining herself to field recording, she brilliantly evokes her sound memories and add layers of guitar loops to better intensify them. Then one moves in a delicate geography, a skillfull back and forth between the place as it was experienced and it’s intimate interpretation that the artist offers to our ears. »(…)

BELCHKITCHEN / E.M.I.R.S.
A very loud onemanband, music varying from sewerblues to noisy trashrock with a touch of hardcore.Messy Homemade electronic triggerdrums are played with feet, guitar with hand and vocals with mouth In contrast to the Belchsingersonggrinderstuff (E.M.I.R.S.),all this is pretty quiet and balanced work, no heavily distorted noise or screams , pretty arty material Most work made by mixing cassettes, reel to reeltapes, home-made soundgenerators and contact mics, surroundrecordings etc.

I hope to hear from you as soon as possible.

All the best.

He s been a member of the well- known experimental collective Gronge untill ‘97 and then with two members of that band started the trio ZU, gaining status of cult band worldwide.
With ZU he released 11 albums ( and lots of singles and compilations) on labels like Chicago’s Atavistic , Holland’s Red Note, french Amanita, San Francisco Frenetic, etc…

BOOKING OFFERS: COH, WANDA GROUP, HEITH, TALIBAN! feat ALAN WILKINSON

Posted in Uncategorized on novembre 12, 2014 by debloque

Dear all,

I’m booking some dates for: COH, WANDA GROUP, HEITH, TALIBAN! feat ALAN WILKINSON.

COH (Russia)

Availability: March and April 2015
Territory: Europe

WANDA GROUP (UK)

Availability: February 10th and 12th
Territory: Europe

HEITH (Italy)

Availability: On request
Territory: Europe

TALIBAM! feat ALAN WILKINSON
http://www.boweavilrecordings.com/sidra_04.html
Availability: From 1st January to 8th January 2015
Territory: Europe

COH
CoH is the musical alias of Ivan Pavlov (Иван Павлов), a Russian-born
musician, sound artist and engineer. He has lived in Sweden since 1995.
After moving to Sweden, he adopted the alias CoH which can be read in
the Cyrillic and Latin alphabet. It means sleep or dream in Russian. CoH
worked with singer Annie Anxiety, with Cosey Fanni Tutti, with American
artist Richard Chartier (under names Chessmachine and Nice Box) as well
as with the British band Coil. Together with Peter Christopherson from
Coil he launched the band Soisong in 2007.

WANDA GROUP
Wanda Group treads that obscure line between rhythmic electronica and
sound art with more obliquity and devilish charm than most. A 4/4
heartbeat intermittently fights through the beautiful murk of Louis
Johnstone’s cuts and pastes but inevitably surrenders to the beguiling
displacement of his assembled found/stolen sounds and passages that flit
between gratuitous bass throbs and just a chance to revel in the sound
of a stylus skating over vinyl.

HEITH
There is a sound which intensity makes while echoing through a human
body, be it through meditation, dream, the coming down of a drug or
the unexpected resurfacing of a string of memories. It is the ghastly
sound of absence. It permeates the atmosphere disguising itself as
silence, phasing in and out of empathy, in and out of time, through
past and future experiences. It eventually evolves into a form of
tired, narcotic sexual stimulation, bringing as much love and
pleasure as pain, guilt, fear and violence. Its true nature is an enigma
that allows itself to get explored and experienced, rather than
explained.
This is what lead Heith [1] through the creation of the _Silence Will
Expire_ EP, six tracks of rhythmic body poetry that make use heavy
bass pulsation, transitional percussions and dehumanized vocals as
ritualistic tools, setting up a looping narrative with no final
resolution, yet radically modifying its own spiritual setting.

TALIBAM! feat ALAN WILKINSON
There can be few more daunting sounds in free music than that of Alan
Wilkinson in overdrive, whether the headlong flights of his alto
playing, or the beefier heft he gets from the baritone. Often featured
lately with bassist John Edwards and drummer Steve Noble ( their CD
‘Live at Cafe Oto’ was among the CDs of the last decade in the Times)
he’s also appeared with Derek Bailey, Peter Brötzmann, Chris Corsano,
Talibam!, Eddie Prevost, and his trio with Simon Fell and Paul Hession,
among others.
Vigilantly bolstering sonic diversity since 2003, Talibam! is proud to
have arrived at their 10-year anniversary with a lucid compassion for
humankind. Despite the incessant deterrents to their d.i.y.
enterprise, Matt Mottel (keys) and Kevin Shea (drums) have remained
devoted to their belief that the application of diversity in sound is
paramount to the appreciation of diversity among fellow beings.
Talibam!’s ultimate goal has been, and always will be, to create music
out of kindness, and to be kind by wedding disparate ideologies threaded
with proficiency and questioning.

Please get back to me if you want to set up a gig one one of these
artists.

Regards.
