MAWARAN TRIO
Arabian music, not unlike neighboring Turkish and Persian music, is defined by its organisation in an ensemble of modes, -MAQAM- the use of recurring rhythmic formulas,-OUASN-, and the non measured improvisation practices, -MAWAL- in vocal form, and -TAKSIM- in instrumental form.
The use of quarter tones and the experienced science of ornamentation are also specific to Arabian music. It is practiced in North Africa and the Middle East and can be declined in both classical and popular music. Lebanese music forms part of this great ensemble of diverse shapes and traditions.
The music of MAWARAN TRIO finds inspiration in the abundant source. In a meditative atmosphere, the songs and lyrics composed in LEBANON are expressing the unveiling of consciousness, the impatience of the bodies in a liberating quest.
JOHN KIRKPATRICK
John Kirkpatrick was born in Chiswick, West London in 1947. A deep love of music was instilled from birth, and family gatherings always included a hearty sing-song. School choirs, the Church choir, playing recorder and piano ensues, until he joined the Hammersmith Morris Men, in their second week, in 1959.
Whilst with the team he took up the melodeon, then the button accordion, then the anglo concertina, and got hooked on the traditional songs that were accompanied with a post-dancing pint.
John has gone on to become one of the most prolific figures on the English folk scene, performing solo, in duos, acoustic groups and electric bands, and has established an enviable reputation as an instrumental virtuoso and session musician, as well as a leading interpreter of English folk music. He has been a member of the Albion Country Band, Magic Lantern, The Richard Thompson Band, Umps and Dumps, Steeleye Span, Brass Monkey, Trans-Europe Diatonique, and Band of Hope, as well as numerous ceilidh bands.
CHRS GALARRETA
For some time now Chrs Galarreta lives and works in The Netherlands, having left his homeland Peru, even when he is here too something of a nomad. Traveling to and from places to perform his or install his sound art pieces he is a keen listener to the environment around him. Usually armed with hand-made electromagnetic transducers, which pick up sound that may not be audible to the human ear. On ‘Raw Field Recordings II’ you just get that; raw field recordings without any transformation, from Lima to Vienna and from Paris to the Lacandona Jungle, and it’s all quite noisy with heavy electrical sparks and current, line hum from inside a train, fluorescent lamp, mobile phone or an electric generator box. It is not something you haven’t heard before; think for instance of the work of Joe Colley or Disinformation, but Galarreta does an equally interesting job as those composers, which culminates in the longest track here, a live recording from Paris, in which, so I assume, he uses all of those field recordings (found on this disc, or otherwise) to create a collage of these somewhat unusual recordings, tying him into the world of Colley and Meirino even more. Quite a beauty this recording and with some excellent suppressed aggression. » (Frans de Waard)
JUICEBOXXX
Juiceboxxx, the Milwaukee-bred punk rap artist, is quite simply the first and last of his kind all at once. Juiceboxxx grew up in the 2000s within the noise, punk rock, and underground rap communities of Wisconsin, and while those banners still fly high independently today, there are very few other artists who not only understand that venn diagram but who are also actively attempting to merge those sounds cohesively.

ARCA
Arca was created in 2000 by Joan Cambon and Sylvain Chauveau. Between 2001 and 2012, they have released four albums on Les Disques du Soleil et de l’Acier and Ici d’Ailleurs, and toured in France, Italy and Spain. Their music have been played on BBC, Radio France, Rai 3, Arte, France 2, M6, TF1, and reviewed in Liberation, Telerama, Les Inrockuptibles…
The new album, « Forces », is out on Ici d’Ailleurs on 21.09.2018: 13 tracks inspired by people involved in conflicts around Mediterranean Sea.
CLAUDIA ROBLES-ANGEL
Interdisciplinary artist living in Germany and active worldwide. Her work and research cover different aspects of visual and sound art, which extend from audiovisual fixed-media compositions to performances and installations interacting with bio-data via the usage of interfaces such as, for example, the EEG (electroencephalogram, measuring brain waves activity). She is currently pursuing a PhD at Brunel University (London, UK).
MATILDE POLITI
She is considered one of the most representative female performers of Sicilian folk music.
Born in Palermo, she graduated in Cultural Antropology at La Sapienza University in Roma, and got a diploma in Performing Arts in C.S.R.T of Pontedera, Pisa.
Her work in the folklore of her native island aims to recover traditional sounds and praxis, but mostly to give new life to an expiring musical landscape, by creating new compositions, always linking Sicilian roots with Mediterranean ones, in order to map out the historical connections and influences, but mostly to draw in music the mixture of cultures that springs from nowadays multi-ethnic Sicilian society.
BLURT
Ted Milton – poet, puppeteer and musician – founded Blurt in the late 70′s. Their music is not definable and that is a good thing, although it veers towards freer jazz in many references (also a good thing). Blurt’s first single ‘My Mother Was a Friend of an Enemy of the People’ (1982 Blackhill records) was followed by the live album ‘In Berlin (1981 Armagedon). Since then more than 20 recordings have followed including vinyl albums, EPs and CDs. They are still touring and have a new album ‘Bomb’ out on Salamander Records. Ted Milton has also created artworks which have been exhibited in Paris and the UK and is a puppeteer with contributions to Terry Gilliam’s film ‘Jabberwocky’ and his poems have been published both on their own and as parts of an anthology. Somehow, I have passed Blurt by until now but in many ways, the discovery of this music is a joy. Ted Milton is poetical leader, sax player and vocalist of Blurt
LUCKY PETERSON + TAMARA PETERSON
Lucky Peterson is the most dangerous triple threat working in the blues. Nobody would refute his reputation as one of the preeminent performers of the modern era. A searing lead guitarist, fantastic organist, and first-rate vocalist, Lucky’s many talents are truly mind-boggling.
Tamara Tramell (Peterson) is a Texas singer that tours the world with the Lucky Peterson band – and his wife. They perform together regularly in all formats – with band, acoustic duo, and Trio (w/ guitar or double bass).

JENNY MOORE
Jenny Moore is a composer / drummer / singer / artist and her Mystic Business is a 12-piece ensemble using drums, tuned percussion and all 12 voices. From deep unison chants to psycho-sexual choral pieces to sardonic xylophone pop, Jenny Moore’s Mystic Business is a post punk blast through self-made mythology and joyful cynicism.
JULIE’s HAIRCUT
Active since the late nineties, Julie’s Haircut is a five piece collective from northern Italy. Their debut album “Fever in the funk house” (Gammapop, 1999), a strange mixture of garage rock, noisy psychedelia and pop melodies was hailed at by the critics as one of the best debuts in Italian indie rock and was included in the top 50 Italian albums of the 90’s by the magazine Rumore. The follow-up “Stars never looked so bright” (Gammapop, 2001) mixed these elements with a more soulful approach, mirroring the love for 60’s black music nurtured by the band.
ANTHROPROHH
Paul Allen from the Heads and Gareth Turner and Jesse Webb from the Big Naturals play heavy psych experimental rock.
LUMISOKEA
Lumisokea is a Belgian-Italian duo, formed by Koenraad Ecker and Andrea Taeggi. Both based in Berlin, they’ve previously released on Eat Concrete, Alter and Opal Tapes.
Lumisokea’s music is at once highly physical and rich in texture, using various acoustic instruments as well as analog hardware to create a dark and introspective listening experience. Their influences range from dub to noise, traditional percussion musics from Asia & Africa, techno, musique concrète and contemporary classical music, while remaining focused on the key elements in their music : to induce trance-like states, to move bodies and to emphasize the tactile qualities of sound.
Dang, Raf Vertessen, Brandon Seabrook, Renya Ketoglo, Ron Anderson, Bart Maris, Enzo Zbiegiel, Fapy Lafertin, Ryan Oslance, Carlo Costa, Samuel Frin, André Pasquet…
VERONICA & THE RED WINE SERENADERS
Veronica Sbergia & Max De Bernardi passionately play country blues and ragtime, hokum, jug band and rural music from the 20’s and 30’s.
They like to keep this precious musical heritage alive faithfully reproducing its original sound whilst playing it with a modern twist.
Using strictly acoustic instruments such ukulele, washboard, kazoo, resophonic guitars and doublebass their passion for this music is perfectly represented on their last CD « OLD STORIES FOR MODERN TIMES », that also sees contributions by other leading musicians and friends, Sugar Blue (a legendary harmonica player in the past with the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Willie Dixon and Frank Zappa) and the world master of resophonic guitar, Bob Brozman.
COMMON EIDER, KING EIDER + DREKKA
Drekka: Continuing his work with memory not only as a subject but also as a process, Michael Anderson has culled many of the sounds on this record from the past. But this is not a record of rehashed material or remixes. Rather, DREKKA’s music is made through continually delving into an archive, digging up and repurposing old recordings, live performances, and forgotten snippets of the voices of out-of-touch friends.
Common Eider, King Eider: Since 2007 San Francisco-based occult Dark Ambient/Doom cult Common Eider, King Eider have been creating some of the most majestic and blood-chilling abstract doom ever put to tape. Sprinkled across a string of nearly impossible to find and hand-crafted cassettes, 7″s and a few 12″s, over the years, this band’s music has levitated from an abyss unknown, and has slowly crawled out of the depths of hades with the sole purpose to haunt, confuse and mesmerize human ears with the sheer force of sound and of total aural soul-desintgration. “Extinction” is the latest chapter in this band’s incredible voyage, and is yet another cornerstone in a growing discography by the band that is made of pure shadow and of complete sonic delirium – a masterfully constructed distillation of experimental doom metal, drone, noise and dark ambient.
SILVESTRE
Initial works were released at the Japanese label Disktopia with « Frank Pike » and « Floresta » Ep. Later on, Silvestre co-founded the « Padre Himalaya » where he released « Sport Theories ».
His music travels between an array of danceable dissonant sounds and ambient thoughtful moods inspired by Portuguese countryside experiences. »
LEFT HAND CUTS OFF THE RIGHT
Left Hand Cuts off the Right (Robbie Judkins) is an outlet for exploratory methods and composition. During live performances he plays with bent electronics, East African instrumentation, hand percussion, field recordings, loops and effects. The sounds are of otherworldliness, twinkling twitchings, habitual drones, crackling rhythms and oddities directing you, transfixed, through the wonderment.
Somehow, I have passed Blurt by until now but in many ways, the discovery of this music is a joy. Ted Milton is poetical leader, sax player and vocalist of Blurt
