HENRY BIRSEY (USA)https://henrybirdsey.bandcamp.com/album/half-dragged
https://henrybirdsey.bandcamp.com/album/laments-for-just-intonation-harpsichordAvailability: 10th May – 30th June 2021
Territories: Europe + UKHenry Birdsey is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and recording
engineer from Vermont (currently based in New Haven, CT). His music is
often drone-based and usually involves microtonal and just intonation
tunings. He primarily plays lap steel and pedal steel. Recent and
upcoming projects include Tongue Depressor (with Zach Rowden), a string
quartet for Apartment House, an album of pieces for re-tuned bells and
electronics with Max Eilbacher (of Horse Lords), and touring sound
design and engineering for Kaija Saariaho. He’s performed nationally and
internationally at venues such as Fylkingen (Stockholm), Cafe Oto
(London), The Museum of Recent Art (Bucharest), The San Francisco Center
for New Music, Brooklyn Academy of Music (NYC), The Barbican Centre
(London), and The Hudson Opera House (Hudson, NY). He studied
composition with Kyle Gann, Joan Tower, Matt Sargent, and Richard
Teitelbaum.DUMA (Kenya)https://dumake.bandcamp.com/releasesAvailability: June 2022
Territory: BelgiumMartin Khanja (aka Lord Spike Heart) and Sam Karugu emerge from
Nairobi’s flourishing underground metal scene as former members of the
bands Lust of a Dying Breed and Seeds of Datura. Together in 2019 they
formed Duma (Darkness in kikuyu) with Sam abandoning bass for production
and guitars and Lord Spike Heart providing extreme vocals to the
project.
Their unique sound fuses the frenetic euphoria, unrelenting physicality
and rebellious attitude of hardcore punk and trash metal with
bone-crunching breakcore and raw, nihilist industrial noise through a
claustrophobic vortex of visceral screams.
Duma are a sinister force facing pain and difficult emotions head on is
the place from which Khanja writes. A sonic aggression of feral
intensity with disregard for styles, the duo promises to impact the
hungry East African metal scene moving it into totally new,
boundary-challenging experimental territories. Their self-titled debut
album was released August 7th 2020 on Nyege Nyege Tapes and has received
the best accolades from the press, including best album in several
end-of-the-year lists (Metal Hammer, Pitchfork, The Wire, The Quietus…)
Duma has a new 7″ dropping soon on Subpop’s singles club and a new AV
collaboration with Jesse Kanda. A remix for Mdou Moctar and a
collaborative album in the works with Indonesian duo ‘Gabber Modus
Operandi’ and with Brazil metal band Deafbricks.ICHI (Japan)https://lostmap.bandcamp.com/album/maruAvailabilities: 27th and 30th May 2022
Territories: Belgium + The NetherlandsHailing from Nagoya’s underground scene, ICHI moved to the UK and
Bristol after meeting English singer-songwriter Rachael Dadd, now his
wife, at a small DIY festival in his hometown. He takes inspiration for
his art from far and wide – a melting-pot of punk, reggae and dub, Henri
Salvador, tribal music and old scratchy 78s. With his trusty sampler
never far away ICHI spends hours poised, ready to capture the perfect
water droplet or page flick, a process which he describes as being « like
catching an animal ». Recorded entirely onto a four-track tape machine in
his attic studio, Maru finds ICHI layering Heath Robinson-esque
song-scapes crafted out of found objects and bizarre homemade
instruments (stilt-bass, kalilaphone, hatbox-pedal-drum, skip-xylophone
and tapumpet) with vocals depicting colourful characters. The album
features guest vocals from This Is The Kit frontwoman Kate Stables, his
wife Rachael Dadd and Lost Map’s own Rozi Plain.SUSS (USA)https://suss.bandcamp.com/Availability: 2022
Territories: Europe + UKWhat would it sound like if ambient pioneer Brian Eno had produced the
Western film scores of Ennio Morricone? We’ll never know, but we’re now
a step closer thanks to SUSS, an NYC quintet whose members (Bob Holmes,
Pat Irwin, Gary Leib, Jonathan Gregg and William Garrett) have worked in
various capacities with Lydia Lunch, the B-52s, Rubber Rodeo, k.d. Lang,
David Bowie, John Cale, Ed Sheeran, Wilco, Norah Jones, The War On
Drugs, Burt Bacharach, and countless others. More than a literal
reconstruction of an imagined collaboration between Eno and Morricone,
their debut album Ghost Box opened a door onto a world where ambient
music and country-western make for natural bedfellows. That world, as it
turns out, is the one we already live in — it just took someone to make
the connection. For Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist and cowpunk
pioneer Bob Holmes, that connection has been hiding in plain sight for
decades. The catalyst behind SUSS, Holmes views electronic acts like
Boards of Canada and shoegaze icons like My Bloody Valentine as more
recent avatars of the « high lonesome » vibe that we tend to think of
strictly in terms of traditional roots music. In that light, you can
trace the melancholic sprawl of classic titles by both of those acts
back to Hank Williams. Looking at that lineage in reverse then begs the
question: What is twang, anyway, if not a form of ambiance?BRUNO DORELLA (Italy)https://brunodorella.bandcamp.com/Availability: 15th February – 15th March
Territories: Benelux, Germany, FranceItalian multi-instrumentalist, only uses his own name for his composer
series albums. Plays with OvO, Ronin, Bachi Da Pietra, Sigillim S, GDG
Modern Trio, Tiresia, Jack Cannon.
I look forward to hearing from you.
All the best.Alain

BOOKING OFFERS

Booking offers (2021 #47)Dear all,Please find here under some musicians who are available for live concerts/performance.
I am booking dates for them.Feel free to get in touch with me if you want to set up a performance/concert for one of them.ANNETTE KREBS (Germany)https://annettekrebs.bandcamp.com/album/konstruktion-1-2-sahAvailability: On request
Territory: Europe + UKAnnette Krebs (born 1967) is a German composer, multi-instrumentalist,
and performer. She grew up in Saarland and studied music and painting
as a child, earning a diploma in classical guitar at the Hochschule für
Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt/Main in 1992. She is based in
Berlin since 1993.
Krebs is associated with the experimental music scene that emerged in
Berlin following German reunification in 1990. Commonly referred to as
« Berlin reductionism » and self-defined by active participants as
« echtzeitmusik » (real-time music), the scene attempted to differentiate
itself from dominant styles of improvisation dominated by Free Jazz and
Free Improvisation by emphasizing composition over improvisation, both
essential elements of unwritten music. The overall aesthetic approach to
music which she likens to scientific experiments: « What I and many
others are doing is discovering the new rules which apply to this
material. If you are a physicist and you have a new material, then you
place it in different environments and see how it reacts. » The primary
materials in Krebs’ experimentation of sound color and timbre are
guitar, computer with max/msp, found objects, radio, and
diy-instruments. Her compositions integrate graphic scores,
improvisation, recorded voice, field recordings, multi-channel outputs,
and digital processing. Krebs is cited as a pioneer of Berlin
« reductionism » which is characterized by « quiet unstable sounds, subdued
group interaction, renunciation of gesture, and structural uses of
silence. »ELI WINTER (USA) + CAMERON KNOWLER (USA)https://cameronknowlereliwinter.bandcamp.comAvailability; 27th May – 05th June 2022
Territories; France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, BelgiumThe Trans-Pecos is a land of stark beauty, dotted with javelinas, ghost
towns and small mountain ranges. There’s Marfa, known for its lights and
minimalist art, and Terlingua, a tight-knit community of old-timers near
the Texas-Mexico border; Alpine, 12,000 strong, is the region’s center.
The winter holidays of 2018 found Cameron Knowler and Eli Winter touring
through that part of the state. Each night they played solo and duo
sets, interpreting traditional folk songs and showcasing their own,
unifying seemingly disparate approaches to the guitar. Anticipation, the
first album of gorgeous duets by the two young gun guitarists, is the
product of this trip, documenting a musical juncture between desert and
city, Chicago and the Southwest, folk traditions and America’s musical
avant-garde.BEX BURCH (UK) & LEAFCUTTER JOHN (UK)https://leafcutterjohn.bandcamp.com/album/boingAvailability: On Request
Territory: Europe [Beneux excluded]Boing! is her collaboration with Leafcutter John, a former art student
who creates unique electronic sound sculptures in collaboration with
various musicians (including Polar Bear, Shabaka Hutchings, Imogen Heap
and Talvin Singh), sometimes using visual programming software,
sometimes by processing outboard synth sounds in real time. On this
improvised collaboration, you might expect the distinction between
Leafcutter John’s FX-laden modular synths and Burch’s balafon to be
stark – space-age electronic effects set against ancient classical
African music – but the results are gloriously confused.I look forward to hearing from you soon. All the best.AlainSome Noise • Rue Timmermans, 16 – 1190 Brussels, BelgiumYou received this email as a customer or subscriber of Some Noise. Click here to leave mailing list

Booking offers (2021 #46)Dear all,I’m booking some dates for TAUPE, ROJIN SHARAFI and RESINA.Feel free to get in touch with me if you want to set up a concert/performance for one of them.
TAUPE (UK)Availability: September 2022
Territories: Europe + UKTaking risks only works if you’re willing to fail, and Taupe share an
understanding that there’s no wrong way to play.
A decade of friendship has conjured a spooky telekinesis that anchors
the band, even when their improvisations teeter on the edge of total
collapse. The three-piece – Jamie Stockbridge (alto sax), Mike
Parr-Burman (guitar) and Adam Stapleford (drums) – are an explosive live
band, veering from taut metronomic precision into intentionally
turbulent, unchartered territory. A DIY ethos feeds their wonky
compositions, colliding sour scatter-skronk with sludgy, doom-inspired
riffs.video_preview_a3116f4d612166e292e86038493cceff.jpgROJIN SHARAFI (Iran)https://rojinsharafi.bandcamp.com/album/karizAvailability: Feb: 15-28, Mar: 1-29, Apr: 11-30, May: 1-9 / 17-31, June:
