Dear promoters,

Please find here a few artists who will be touring soon.

Feel free to get in touch with me if you want to set up a concert for one of them.

BLACK BOMBAIM (Porugal)
https://blackbombaim.bandcamp.com/
Availability: 6 – 13th April 2019
Territory: Belgium
BLACK BOMBAIM are a progressive psychedelic/space rock outfit from Barcelos/Portugal with heavy stoner substance. Ricardo Miranda (guitar), Tojo Rodrigues (bass) and drummer Paulo Gonçalves grew up together exchanging records and today are playing tricky instrumental outer-space jams. Since 2009 they have produced three albums, where the current one ‘Titans’ marks an excellent multi-variant exemplar, even including guest musicians on keyboards and saxophone.

DEAFKIDS (Brazil) + RATKA (Brazil)

https://rakta.bandcamp.com/
Availability: 27th April
Territory; Belgium
DEAFKIDS’ “Configuração Do Lamento” is an untamed release, happy to juxtapose monolithic drone riffage with frantic polyrhythmic detours, the band citing the syncopated beats of African drums as a major influence. It is a guttural, scorched mutation of psychedelia, that similar intent of frying the listener’s perception, while void of anything approaching earthy wistfulness, wholly fluid in nature, paying no heed to any musical expectations other than the creators own internal logic. A bombardment of clanging percussion sits below relentless guitar battering, and a whole host of electronic tamperings, effects which in practice manage to further confound the proceedings. Using the term psychedelic in the absolute loosest sense is apt, as the band claims that “non-genre genres” are a chief source of inspiration, referencing anything from their own background in punk, right the way through to spiritual jazz, practically any form which allows the artist to experiment with the utter extremes of musical expression.
Straight from the depths of São Paulo, Brazil, Rakta is a band too wild to be caged inside familiar rock labels. In fact, very little is familiar, or comfortable in Rakta’s music and general stance. On the road since 2012, the group, formed only by women, had as an initial inspiration the musical freedom and policy of the 70s/80s anarchist and post-punk scene, especially towards the “antiphilosophies” from the British collective Crass.

PERUNIKA TRIO (Bulgaria)
http://www.perunikatrio.com/our-music/
Avaikability: in 2019. To be announced
Territory: Europe + UK
Award-winning London-based PERUNIKA TRIO was founded by artistic director Eugenia Georgieva, following the most archetypal format for Bulgarian harmony singing – the female trio. Incorporating Bulgarian, Macedonian and Russian traditional music and Orthodox chants into a broader Slavic repertoire, their a cappella performances include poetry and storytelling. The three singers of Perunika share a love of the dramatic beauty of Bulgarian folk music, where pagan past, Church Slavonic tradition and five centuries of Ottoman rule fuse, leading you to an exciting journey into Slavic spirituality.

Thanks for reading.

The next newsletter is to be mailed out on 7th January.

Happy New Ears… 🙂

I hope to hear from you asap.

EMILIO BERNE (Italy)

Availability: From 23rd March onwards.
Territory: Europe + UK

Emilio Bernè, drummer, improviser, his drumming is inspired by a mix of free jazz, electronics and noise influences researching closed to performing arts.
Most of the inspiration for this solo comes from artists that work with an interdisciplinary vision.

Playing drums thinking noise turntablism, searching sound as an analog synthesizers musician. Attracted by error beats and defective functions, this solo is a crack of simulated electronics composed by amplified metal strings on cymbals and spinner on snare, fragments of beats passing by freejazz and noise/breakcore.
DOUG McLEOD (USA)

Availability: November 2018
Territory: Europe

Doug MacLeod (born April 21, 1946, New York City, United States) is an American storytelling blues musician. … Although predominantly associated with acoustic guitar, his skills were developed as a blues bass player, and honed by his subsequent journeys into jazz and electric blues.
ELEPHANT MICAH (USA)

Availability: June 2019
Territory/ Europe + UK

Some thoughts from Joe O’Connell on his project’s new album: The album title is Genericana. To me, that roughly means « the stuff from which stuff generates. » It’s a short hand way of evoking all the elements that I’m mashing up in this music. The idea is basically that it’s this collision of genres, and collision of different versions of « American music. » It’s also an album that doesn’t fit very neatly into a category of album — studio? live? remix? Maybe all, or none, of the above. This is a new mutant variety of Elephant Micah, better suited to survive the cultural climate of the moment in so-called « Trump’s America. » It lives!

I guess the lodestone in the process of making this was the kind of global avant garde mood that’s prevalent in a lot of 1980s albums I admire. Things like Joni Mitchell’s Dog Eat Dog and Arthur Russell’s Calling Out of Context. These records where singers were making really eclectic and outward looking productions — writing *through* the process of recording, and literally *play- ing* with technologies that were totally new to them. All the gear that I gathered to make the album was basically discarded or devalued. I got a bunch of stuff from Craigslist that interested me: a cheap FM synth, some Hindustani electronics, and an old three-head tape deck to use as a « poor man’s space echo. » The icing on the cake is a one-of-a-kind home- made digital synthesizer
called « The Mutant ». I worked with my brother to design it. He built it and coded it. The concept of the synth is parallel to the concept of the album itself. It’s an electronic take on « folk » sounds (bends, drones, modal playing) and folk creative approaches (a cobbling together and reformatting of existing elements).

MATTHEW DEAR (USA)

Matthew Dear is a shapeshifter, oscillating seamlessly between DJ, dance-music producer, and experimental pop auteur. He is a founding artist on both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He writes, produces, and mixes all of his work. He maintains four aliases (Audion, False, Jabberjaw, and Matthew Dear), each with its own style and distinct visual identity. Sam Shalabi is an Egyptian-Canadian composer and improviser, living between Montreal, Quebec and Cairo, Egypt. Beginning in punk rock in the late 70s,his work has evolved into a fusion of experimental, modern Arabic Music that incorporates traditional Arabic, shaabi, noise, classical, text, free improvisation and jazz. His musical style combines elements of 20th century classical music with free jazz improvisation and world music aesthetics. THE REMOTE VIEWERS (UK)

https://johnedwards.bandcamp.com/album/remote-viewers-trio-live-at-iklectik-121217

Availability; 9th and 11th February 2019
Territories; Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, France

After five albums on Leo, the Remotes have decided to go it alone with Sudden Rooms.. – though Leo Feigin assures me they haven’t left the fold for good – which kicks off with another extraordinary cover version (to add to the Madonna and Portishead masterpieces on their preceding outings): this time it’s David Sylvian’s « Ghosts » that gets the Louise Petts treatment, her silky smooth voice accompanied by husband David’s weird swoony harmonisations. One imagines that Mr Sylvian, who’s now hooked up with such avant heroes as Derek Bailey and Christian Fennesz, will appreciate the homage. Elsewhere, the outlandish microtonal synth work and positively disturbing saxophone arrangements might give you a clue as to why the Remotes opted to release this themselves. Five years on from their Leo debut they’re still one of the most original and as a result under-appreciated outfits around, and it’s ironic that they’re based in the city with perhaps the liveliest improv scene in the world, London. Unless there are some seismic changes in the world cultural map, The Remote Viewers are rather unlikely to be playing in a venue near you in the foreseeable future, so you’d be advised to email Mr Petts forthwith and procure yourself a copy of this little treasure.
ITALIA 90 (UK)

https://italia-90.bandcamp.com/

Availability: April 2019 except but 13th April
Territories: Europe

Italia 90 sound like many of the bands we may have heard on bad quality
cassettes in the late 70’s.

The sound this four piece create, recalls those early Wire recordings, Joy Division cassettes and Gang of Four bootlegs at least one mate would own having sneaked a cassette recorder into the venue to record and listen to a few weeks later. Tapes that probably still exist, unplayable now, they’ve been nearly out the door more than once but are still nice to look at as a reminder of times gone by.
MARIE DAVIDSON (Canada)

https://mariedavidson.bandcamp.com/album/la-ecstase

Availability: To be annouced
Territory: Europe

« Working Class Woman” is the Montreal-based producer’s fourth release. The record is informed by a career which has spanned an ambient-influenced album as Les Momies De Palerme for Montreal’s Constellation label; her synth-disco styled duo DKMD with David Kristian; and Essaie Pas, signed to DFA, and with whom she’s shaped minimal synth and « cyberpunk coldwave” sounds into a fresh mould.
EUGENE CHADBOURNE – JOE SACHSE (USA/GERMANY)

Availability: 30th September
Territory: Belgium

As a boy, EUGENE CHADBOURNE picked up a guitar and
started playing. It was the beginning of a career in string music and improvisational
techniques that have taken him to underground venues around the world. Chadbourne placed number 69 in Spin’s greatest 100 rock guitarists of all time. The same year he was chosen as one of the « The Great Jazz Guitarists. »

JOE SACHSE, the enfant terrible of the (East) German jazz scene, is active as a guitar player since about 40 years and worked almost with everybody in the former GDR and lots of international stars. He is combining elements from improvised (jazz) music and rock improvisation- as as well Eugene Chadbourne does since as well almost 40 years. Both heard about the other and they was always interested in the works of the
other. So it was just a question of time while both will meet on stage for duo concerts – even if it used four decades.

Thank you for reading.

I hope to hear from you as soon as possible.

Regards.

Alain
