Territory: BelgiumSince 1980, the 4 or 5 or 6 Floptops known as Negativland have been
creating records, CDs, video, fine art, books, radio and live
performance using appropriated sounds, images, objects, and text. Mixing
original materials and original music with things taken from corporately
owned mass culture and the world around them, Negativland re-arranges
these found bits and pieces to make them say and suggest things that
they never intended to. In doing this kind of cultural archaeology and
« culture jamming » (a term they coined way back in 1984), Negativland
have been sued twice for copyright infringement.
Over the years Negativland’s « illegal » collage and appropriation based
audio and visual works have touched on many things – pranks, media
hoaxes, advertising, media literacy, religion, the evolving art of
collage, the bizarre banality of suburban existence, creative
anti-corporate activism in a media saturated multi-national world, file
sharing, intellectual property issues, wacky surrealism, evolving
notions of art and ownership and law in a digital age, and artistic and
humorous observations of mass media and mass culture.
Negativland is interested in unusual noises and images (especially ones
that are found close at hand), unusual ways to restructure such things
and combine them with their own music and art, and mass media
transmissions which have become sources and subjects for much of their
work.HIDE [USA]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STlBX_D7GOcAvailability: September/October
Territory: BelgiumHIDE are an electronic duo based in Chicago. Together since 2014, the
pair create sample based compositions using a combination of self
sourced field recordings and various pop culture/media. Releases include
2016’s Black Flame ep which is dedicated to the memory of Reyhana
Jabbari, a 27 year old Iranian woman who was hung for allegedly killing
someone who trying to rape her, and deals with various human rights
violations in Iran. HIDE’s 2017 debut album « Castration Anxiety » on Dais
addresses issues of power dynamics and representation. Seething with
textured yet minimal tracks, HIDE gives raw vulnerability an opportunity
to unfurl, yielding an album that calls for personal autonomy and the
destruction of anything barring the way.
A single on Sub-pop for the label’s singles club followed, with two
unhinged tracks touching on the phenomenon of internalized misogyny and
aspects of motherhood. HIDE’s second full length album « Hell is Here » on
Dais is slated for release late summer 2019. The band’s sophomore
release finds them trading more traditional compositions for far more
incongruous and disjointed ones. The tone is sick and heavy. The band’s
trademark elements, complex drum programming, stomach churning sub bass,
aggressive expressive vocals, remain intact while the listener is met
with something a lot less illusory and a lot more direct. The addition
of sampled live drums coupled with what are mostly clean vocals brings a
new organic element into the fold.
HIDE cut their teeth in the diy spaces of Chicago and have continued
touring vigorously since. Last year the band toured Europe, Russia and
UK in addition to multiple North American runs. Known for their
energetic live performances, the duo also work as interdisciplinary
artists together, creating films and visual art installations as well.IAN PAICE [Deep Purple] feat. Purpendicular [UK]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wf8lmTIbawAvailability: 23rd November–6th December
Territory: BelgiumIan Paice is the legendary drummer of Deep Purple (among others,
ex-Whitesnake, Gary Moore, George Harrison, Paul McCartney) and
currently the only remaining founding member of Deep Purple. Now he is
going on tour with the band Purpendicular to bring his
Best-Of-Classic-Deep-Purple-Show to the stage. Ian Paice can be
experienced live and up close in club atmosphere. No video screen is
needed because Ian Paice will perform his unique style of drumming just
a few meters away from the audience for over two hours. Deep Purple
classics such as « Child ».ELI WALLACE [USA]https://eliwallace.bandcamp.com/album/pieces-interludesAvailability; 12th-18th November 2023
Territory. Europe + UKEli Wallace is a pianist, improviser, composer, and curator who resides
in Brooklyn, NY, where he leads his own projects and collaborates with
other like-minded artists. His work as a pianist makes use of extensive
piano preparations, while his compositions employ notational strategies
to broaden the manner in which sounds are created and the ways in which
musicians interact.
I hope to hear from you soon.Have a nice week.

BRIGHDE CHAIMLBEUL [Scotland]https://brighdechaimbeul.bandcamp.com/album/carry-them-with-usAvailability: 6th-22nd September 2023
Territory: BeneluxWinner of the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award and youngest ever winner of the
BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, Scotland’s Brighde Chaimbeul has
established herself among the leading experimental purveyors of celtic
music. A native gaelic speaker from the Isle of Skye her style is rooted
in her native language and culture but takes inspiration from a variety
of global traditions. Brighde plays the Scottish smallpipes, a
bellows-powered set of bagpipes with a double-note drone. She has
devised a completely unique way of arranging for pipe music that
emphasises the rich textural drones of the instrument; the constancy of
sound that creates a trance-like atmosphere. In 2021 Brighde performed
on the smallpipes to world leaders and listeners across the globe, as
the musician of the opening ceremony of COP 26.MVLL CRIMES [Canada/UK]https://mvllcrimes.bandcamp.com/Availability: Winter 2023 – Spring 2024Aggress against worship again, new as new is, suffocate me. There is
always someone to praise, the demagoguery of modern media makes it hard
to see the forest for the trees. Put your phone in the other room, sit
back, and soak in the distorted view of MVLL CRIMES. Steal away this
moment for your own. Thank you for listening.GAMUT INC [Germany]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RFbhV5IKsgAvailabiity: From early 2024 onwards.
Territories: Europe + UKThe Berin based retro-futuristic ensemble gamut inc plays self built
computer-controlled music machines, automated pipe organs in churches
and concert houses and makes musical theatre. The core of the ensemble
is made up of computer-musician Marion Wörle and composer Maciej
Śledziecki, who collaborate on a project by project basis with various
other musicians and artists.MALTASH (Libanon)https://maltash.bandcamp.com/album/sabotage-yourselfAvailability: On request
Territories: Europe + UKMaltash is a Lebanese musician currently based in Brussels, Belgium.
Stuck between constant love and detachment from the world, his music
comes out as a harsh yet emotionally twisted reaction to modern day
society. His connection to a relentless country like Lebanon has
influenced him in every sense, as he cries and screams to interlaced
riffing and weeping guitars, oozing from an industrial backdrop. The
project first started from a need to uphold purity of expression in
music, far away from any agenda or expectation, guided only by the
principle of « Break Every Boundary, Empower the Disheartened ». This
inevitably results in a synthesis of genres from across the dark and
dystopian spectrum, which promises to constantly evolve.HELEN MONEY [USA]https://www.helenmoney.com/mediaAvailability: September-October 2023
Territory: BelgiumAlison Chesley, also known by her stage name Helen Money, began playing
the cello at the age of 8 in her hometown of Los Angeles and mbera
course towards a career in classical music until she went to Chicago to
attend Northwestern University and decided to go full steam ahead in
pursuit of a career outside of it. She began a busy period as a solo
artist, especially on Chicago’s then thriving studio scene, where she
played on over 100 albums including those by Bob Mould, Broken Social
Scene, Anthrax, Mono, Russian Circles, Disturbed and Poi Dog Pondering.
She began composing music for films, theater and dance including two
world premiers with the modernist icon Shirley Mordine.
In 2007, Alison wrote the first Helen Money album and released it on her
own label, Cellobird Records. Since then, she’s recorded 4 additional
albums as Helen Money: « In tune », also on her label, « Arriving angels »
on Profound Lore Records « Become Zero » and the newest « Atomic » out on
Thrill Jockey.
Helen Money is equally at home in the New Music realm as she is in the
New Metal realm. She has toured extensively with an incredible array of
musicians, including Shellac, Neurosis, Sleep, Russian Circles, Magma,
Agalloch, Earth, and Nina Nastasia. Both Portishead and Shellac selected
her for their respective All Tomorrow’s Parties festivals and she toured
with Earth in their last European tour…

VON STROHEIM (Belgium)https://allmylinks.com/von-stroheim
https://youtu.be/YLGDAFFSVlMAvailability: September 2023 – First half of 2024
Territory: EuropeVon Stroheim is a doom blues trio fronted by a female singer with a
haunted voice. The lyrics are inspired by the films noirs of the 40’s
and 50’s. This allows for an exploration of the human psyche and its
deviance. The words also address the subject of sexism and class rule.
The trio’s elegant post-metal compositions are enriched with film
samples, as well as synths and theremin which give their work a truly
cinematographic feel.
Peculiar Drug – the trio’s 2nd full-length album – will be produced by
Déhà (Wolvennest, La Muerte…) and released in September 2023.The trio
has been described as ‘Patti Smith meets Swans’ and ‘PJ Harvey jamming
with Black Sabbath’.THE VEX COLLECTION (USA)https://thevexcollection.bandcamp.com/album/the-vex-collectionAvailabilities: 6th-7th + 13th-14th October

September
Territory: BrusselsIkue Mori is an electronic musician expanding the range of sonic and
technical possibilities for experimental and improvisational music. She
creates rhythmic and ambient soundscapes using digital processing
techniques, a laptop computer, and repurposed elements of electronic
drumming equipment. Over her five-decade career, Mori has transformed
the use of percussion in improvised music and inspired generations of
electronic musicians.
Mori’s most recent recording, Tracing the Magic (2022), consists of
seven pieces inspired by women artists who continued creating new work
well into their eighties and nineties. It is a continuation of her
explorations of sound and improvisational dialogue. The pieces often
begin in hushed electronic thumps, pops, and brushed tones. The layering
of instruments (among them prepared piano, vocals, percussions, reeds,
and bagpipe) builds gradually, ascending to achieve a riveting
cacophony. With unceasing curiosity, Mori continues to evolve and to
blaze an uncharted path exploring new ways to create experimental,
machine-based music.MASCHE (Italy)https://maschecollective.bandcamp.com/album/oxia-chaosAvailabilities: Mid September-mid October 2023

towards electroacoustic composition. His work for Carillon ‘EANN’ was

commission from the Rewire festival. His work has been broadcasted
world–wide on local as well as national stations like VPRO Radio 4,
Radio 3 Spain, Polish and Norwegian National Radio, and RTÉ Ireland. He
worked with filmmaker Thomas Mohr his ‘Resonance’ & ‘Learning curve’

Change?
For over 10 years, Clouse and the various other musicians who’ve been in

Territories: Europe + UKSince his first productions emerged back in 2010, Munchi has put his own
spin on everything he’s approached, bending moombahton into breakcore
and creating moombahcore fusing skullstep and trap and making skulltrap,
and curving bachata and merengue…. A voracious listener, he’s been
able to absorb sounds from across the diaspora – from reggeton and baile
funk to Dutch bubbling and Chicago juke – and effortlessly engineer his
own twist, creating tracks and mixes with a journalistic hunger for
storytelling and contextual deconstruction, Blogger and musicologist
Wayne Marshall even coined a separate genre for Munchi’s diverse spread
of genre-agnostic productions back in 2010: Munchiton. Since then,
Munchi has worked with M.I.A. and Pharell Williams among others, and
remixed everyone from Skrillex to Nguzunguzu, Noisia to Buraka.KHALAB [Italy]https://djkhalab.bandcamp.com/album/hyperituals-vol-1-soul-note-vinyl-onlyAvailability: September 2023
Territories: Europe + UKAs debut on his own label Hyperjazz Records, with ’The Great Oxidation’,
electro-shaman Khalab comes back to his natural habitat: the dance
floor. With these three instrumental tracks, the visionary artist aims
to drive the listener on a backward journey, down to rediscover the most
ancestral human rite: to dance. A return to the origin in a radical way
to reach a brighter future, but also a bridge for another world – a new
space where meet new life forms and uncover new feelings and new
consciousness.NIKLAS FITE [Sweden]https://niklasfite.bandcamp.com/Availability: On request
Territory: Europe + UKNiklas Fite is an improviser playing guitars and banjo from Stockholm,
Sweden. Although he started as a serious jazz musician at the age of 12,
he has since 2013 mainly been dedicated to the art of free
improvisation, utilising personal unconventional techniques. His musical
language is influenced by a myriad of musics, from the west African
lutes to the Kayageum of Korea, from early jazz to Stockhausen, etc. He
has worked extensively both in steady groups (in trio with Sture Ericson
and Martin Klapper, and in duo with Raymond Strid, for example) and in
ad hoc combinations with Roger Turner, Mats Gustafsson, Barry Guy,
Michel Doneda, Lionel Marchetti, among many others.
He can be heard on record in trio with Sven Åke Johansson and Joel Grip
(« Swingin’ at Topsis »), in duo with Raymond Strid (« Avec ») and in duo
with Joe Williamson (« Amphibians »), to name a few.SEAN BRIE (Romania)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v53WP11-RwIAvailability: On request
Territories: Europe + UKAfter studying at the Bucharest MusicConservatory and being brought into
jazz and free-jazz by the pianist Mircea Tiberian, Sian Brie moves to
Berlin,
where he has the opportunity to meet and work with musicians like
Christian Lillinger, Horst Nonnenmacher, Manuel Miethe. He moves to
London the
following year where he meets Dawid Frydryk (trumpet) and they start a
trio involving Guillaume Viltard on double bass. The two musicians deal
with both negative and positive discrimination and, in the end, realize
that they get to have a behavior in a perfect accordance with the label
that has been given to them. This is the birth place for the attitude
expressed by the phrase “to live up to your discrimination standards”.
Sian Brie is the co-founder of the free improvisation group “UMAMI”
featuring John Edwards, Mark Sanders and Dawid Frydryk, and a member of
Bucharest based improv group “And the this!”. He has worked with
musicians including Mircea Tiberian, Mihai Iordache, Nicholas Simion
etc.
