BOOKING OFFERS: JACKIE-O MOTHERFUCKER + NICOFFEINE

Posted in Uncategorized on novembre 28, 2013 by debloque

Dear all, I am booking some dates for JACKIE-O MOTHERFUCKER and NICOFFEINHE. JACKIE-O MOTHERFUCKER (USA) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDPSYgpYBXE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkGhiJTcGiU Availability: From 2nd May 2014 backwards Territory: Europe NICOFFEINE (Germany) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgbV8MkT_Bc Availability: 4th, 7th and 9th March 2014 Territories: Spain + Portugal JACKIE-O MOTHERFUCKER Jackie-O Motherfucker is an American experimental music group that formed in Portland, Oregon in 1994. Jackie-O Motherfucker began as a duo consisting of multi-instrumentalist Tom Greenwood and saxophonist Nester Bucket.[1] The group has had more than forty members drawn from the U.S. experimental scene. As of 2008, the core of the group is founding member Greenwood. Jackie-O Motherfucker’s music draws from a variety of subgenres including various folk musics of the world (American folk and blues, Native American song, Traditional English folk ballads, etc.), drone, free jazz, and space-rock, and is heavily improvisational in its nature. Because they are a collective, rather than a consistent band or group, the sound of their music can change from performance to performance. The group operates its own label of CD-R live recordings, the U-Sound Archive, which features concert recordings from Jackie-O Motherfucker as well as like-minded subterranean artists such as Double Leopards, Sunroof!, Decaer Pinga, and Vibracathedral Orchestra. The group’s first three albums were limited-run vinyl-only releases on now-defunct Portland label Imp Records. Since then, the group has had recordings released by many different labels from around the world before settling down with the London based label Fire Records. The group has been on several international tours, including several performances at All Tomorrow’s Parties Festivals by way of Sonic Youth. The band played the 2002 and 2004 festivals curated by Sonic Youth and the 2007 festival curated by Thurston Moore. The band has released their work through the ATP label and Moore’s own Ecstatic Peace! label. Several albums released by the group are from live shows, which stand apart from their other releases due to the improvisational nature. NICOFFEINE Punk rock’s outcry at pop culture is played out. Some 30 years later, we’re in the future and we’re bored. Some still ball their spite for pop in other ways. Deliberately shrill and mostly dense, « noise » has become a blanket term for bands who explore and experiment around the beaten path. The genre, like others, isn’t without its share of hangups, but that’s why we’re here. Every month, we supply a short list of sure bets in St. Louis, ranging from needlessly complex to minimalist drone. Connect the weird to your ears. Thanks for reading. I hope to hear from you asap. Probably in May 2014 with LOUP Territories: Big cities RAAJMAHAL Pat Murano from the legendary NoNeckBluesBand and known also for his psychdelic noise as Decimus will be in Europe for the first time with this new project… RAAJMAHAL, a psychdelic dreamy experience of sound for lover of music like Popol Vuh and Ash Ra Temple. MUSICA DE CUCINA Sounds from the kitchen, intimacy and atmospheres of tinkling glasses and the whistle of the kettle in a performance that grows little by little, like a dish in the oven, revealing the bewitchment of daily gestures. Musica da cucina since 2007 travels around the world enchanting people with sounds from the kitchen, accompanied by guitar, clarinet, voice and accordion. Born as a house experiment, the project grew up more and more and played in hundreds of theatre, festival, house, restaurant, canteen, school, gallery and veggie garden concerts around the word. LOUP Free jazz/ noise duo from Lyon, France. LOUP already made his point regarding his unique approach of electronic Vs. acoustic sounds. Via 2 recordings – both released on Gaffer Records (and Audition Records for the 2nd one also), « s/t » in 2010 and « The Opening » in 2012 – LOUP explores, goes even deeper in the research and is about to reach a new level in improvised music. The 2 musicians also share their time with different other projects. Clément Edouard (sax & electronic) plays with IRèNE and Lunatic Toys…both jazz bands that breaks the limits of the genre. Sheik Anorak (drums & electronic) also plays solo and with bands like Neige Morte (avan Black Metal)and Kanine (free jazz) among others. He also runs the label Gaffer Records, which became one of the most influential improv/ noise label in Europe with artists such as Mats Gustafsson, MoHa!, Weasel Walter, The Ames Room, Offonoff, Jazzkamer, Marteau Rouge… THE AMES ROOM This international trio is one of the most forward-thinking band in the jazz scene these days. With Will Guthrie on drums, Clayton Thomas on double bass and Jean-Luc Guionnet on alto sax, what would you expect? Their music is so unpredictable and yet so repetitive. You can not keep your feet and body from moving…which is not the usual effects a jazz band would have on your body, right? But this trio manage to take the music a step further and break all the boundaries you may have known regarding jazz. But it is surely STILL jazz, free jazz. Their lastest record is now out on Gaffer Records (LP/ CD and DL), and it is true that this great recording is no exeption to the rule. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for reading. Regards. BOOKING OFFERS: CONTROL UNIT / TROPHIES

Posted in Uncategorized on novembre 14, 2013 by debloque

Dear all, I am booking some dates for CONTROL UNIT and TROPHIES. CONTROL UNIT (Italy) http://controlunit.tumblr.com Availability: 16th January + between 18th and 23rd + 25th/26th January 2014 Territory: Europe. 16th must be between Geneva and Zurich TROPHIES (International trio) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtnAcJZyBKI Availability: From 25th April 2014 onwards Territories: Scandinavian countries TROPHIES Trophies is a project led by Alessandro Bosetti – voice and electronics. Focusing on loops of spoken/sung abstract and highly emotional text and features the fretless guitar of Kenta Nagai and the textural and pulse driven drumming of Tony Buck. Focusing on loops of spoken/sung abstract and highly emotional poetry, Bosetti has created a powerful trance band where voice and electronic sound melt with the hallucinatory fretless e-guitar playing of Kenta Nagai and the patiently groovy and virtuoso pulses of Tony Buck. Trophies uses lengthy, repetitive and highly dynamic text-sound forms in a totally unique and genre defying way. In the work of composer Alessandro Bosetti, the gap between music and speech gets a lot smaller. Both in his solo music and with his trio Trophies, he explores what he calls « repetitive speech-loop forms. » Frequently, this involves him recording people either reading lines or speaking extemporaneously, then transposing the recordings into written music. Often, Bosetti then speaks the same words himself in conjunction with that music. On his latest solo CD Royals and Trophies’ new album Become Objects of Daily Use (both released by Polish label Monotype), he constantly questions the roles of music and speech: whether they convey literal meaning, act as pure sound, or do something in between … (Marc Masters – Pitchfork) I look forward to hearing from you asap. BOOKING OFFERS: THE SIGHT BELOW + MARK FELL as SENSATE FOCUS

Posted in Uncategorized on novembre 12, 2013 by debloque

Dear all, I’m booking a few dates for THE SIGHT BELOW, MARK FELL as SENSATE FOCUS. THE SIGHT BELOW (USA) http://www.media-loca.com/thesightbelow/audiovideo ghostly.com/releases/glider-lp-version-+-digital-bonus-version soundcloud.com/room40/rafael-anton-irisarri-lesser Availability: 26th January 2014 Territory: Belgium MARK FELL as SENSATE FOCUS (UK) http://editionsmego.com/releases/sensate-focus Availability: December 2013, January/February 2014 Territory: France THE SIGHT BELOW The Sight Below is an ambient techno/shoegaze act from Seattle, Washington. Its main member is American post-minimalist composer Rafael Anton Irisarri. Sam Valenti IV signed The Sight Below to his Ghostly International imprint in 2008 after listening to a demo tape. A promotional EP No Place for Us was soon released by the label as a free MP3 download on August 26, 2008.[1] The Sight Below debuted its live set at Seattle’s KEXP radio station on September 20, 2008.[2] The in-studio session was recorded and is available on Ghostly’s website as a podcast (GhostlyCast #18).[3] A well-received performance followed at the Ghostly International showcase during Decibel Festival.[4] These performances paved the way for an extensive European tour that saw the artist perform at 18 different cities in the continent, including Unsound Festival in Krakow, Poland, EME Festival in Lisbon, Portugal, S.O.Y. Festival in Nantes, France and TimeZones Festival in Bari, Italy.[5] The Sight Below’s full-length debut album Glider was released in the United States on November 2008 and January 2009 worldwide. It is available as both a physical and digital release. The album was very well received by the press and music community, including praise from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, who charted « At First Touch » on his January 6, 2009 « Office Chart » posting on the band’s website Dead Air Space.[6] Murmur EP followed in 2009, including remixes by Arctic techno pioneer Biosphere, Eluvium and Simon Scott (formerly of Slowdive and Lowgold). The Sight Below’s second full-length, It All Falls Apart, was released on April 6, 2010. It features music written with the aforementioned Simon Scott and a cover version of Joy Division’s « New Dawn Fades » (with guest vocals by Tiny Vipers). Described by All Music Guide as “impeccably made ambient thump-and-drone”, Pitchfork Media called it « A beautifully bleak cloud of sound » while XLR8R magazine gave it a 9/10 ranking and praised it as “an astounding range of visceral sonic possibilities…a hurricane passing over an ocean, gathering heat and force while simultaneously cooling the waters below.” MARK FELL as SENSATE FOCUS Mark Fell is available for installations, performances, exhibitions and also live performances as Sensate Focus. He would love to come to France between the months of December 2013 and the end of February 2014. Mark Fell is usually known for his partnership with Mat Steel as the Sheffield-based duo SND. The two have been releasing records on labels such as Mille Plateaux and Raster-Noton since the late 1990s, taking a six year break (with only the pseudonymous Blir album released during that gap) between 2002-’08. They came back with a vengeance, opening an extensive tour for Autechre and releasing the triple 12″ 4,5,6, followed swiftly by the album Atavism in ’09. But in 2010 and ’11, Fell released no less than four solo albums. Solo, the angular electronics and palette specificity were familiar to SND fans, as was the algo-rhythmic loveliness of his generative, techno-informed patterns. In early 2012, Fell released his Sensate Focus project. The name also applied to his new imprint – distributed through Peter Rehberg’s Editions Mego label – as well as the title of the release, a two-track 12″. While Sensate Focus sounded unmistakably like Mark Fell, it was a side of him always implied, but never before realised. Its take on house and techno makes those two decades-old ideas sound brand new. Employing a sensual warmth, appropriate for the name, and the familiar energy of dance music, the exploratory rhythm compositions are layered beat patterns with funk and flair, evoking an undeniable body response as well as igniting the imagination. Thanks for reading. I would like to hear from you asap. Regards. CLOE DU TREFLE

20 years after that I get one of the nicest booklets I have ever seen, must have costed a fortune. The music has even a bit of electro influences. The French is very stylish, still with a little bit of An Pierlé influences. Love the nice and well worked out production. ‘L’appel’

is a stylish intro. ‘Je pars’ has nice violins and a nice drive. For years ‘No Matter’ was on my mp3 and later on my i-tunes (please if you don’t know this song: go looking after it), as a fix song and I think this one will be added soon enough. ‘L’epicier’ sounds like a trip trough Brussels, with all the lowparts and the nice accents of people from all kind of parts of Europe who live in Brussels, all together. Somehow this song reminds me a bit of Front242, in a French version. Love the electro and the nice musical details. ‘L’esquisse’ is another nice electro minded track, with a vocal play, nice strings and funny little noises. A ravishing ecclectic song, with an angelic voice. ‘Le Musée’ is a classic track, meaning a lot of classic intruments have been used here. The lyrics are like a poem, sung as if it was a nice game of wordplay. ‘Descendance’

has some reggae flow in it, reflecting the city life & love. Maybe I should call it a city soundscape? I hear even some 80’s and Miles Davis influences. ‘Jef’ is another city story about this guy, with a classic ‘Underviewer’ drive, love it. ‘Chanchan’ sounds as a song from the 60’s with some electro wizz kid things (some drum’ bass) and is sung in English. Love the bassline in this song and the sound of Cloé’s voice.

‘Même longitude mais bien plus au Nord’ is a typical Cloé du Trefle sad song with the melancholic voice and dito story. It’s clearly where this story is going and what the message is. It’s clear why she was on the same stage as Ani DiFranco years ago. Top quality from Brussels! ‘Avez-vous rencontré’ is a very poetic song, with a great piano and the nice wordplay i know from this great artist. Nicely and smoothly building up the tension. ‘L’effeuilleuse’ is another great piano song, where you can hear no sound but the sound of great and talented people producing an angelic sound, with classic instruments. Love the violins and the cello, they add thi little extra. This is a song you need to hear and see during a gig, whilst holding your lover. You might shed a tear in the end. This song gives me goosebumps and goes straight to my bones. ‘L’air semble déjà différent’ starts very simple, almost a capella. Slowly building up, adding sounds and instruments. Without really noticing you will start to move and maybe even start to dance on this song. A great ending for a pearl, a beauty of the heart! Love the musical chaos in the end, taking it to the top, getting to the musical extasy!

Thanks for reading.

PHILIPPE CAVALLERI

It all started with tapes, found lying on the ground… Sound tests before

lectures, or erased & recycled with remaining fragments of  speeches (in

many different languages, arabic chinese french russian… all mix

together to create something like a new form of communication), small

dictaphone tapes from answering machine or just containing hiss &

noises…

Everything was there, waiting for a re-composition…

From banality to poetry…

Thank you very much for reading.

I look forward to hearing from you.
